Job description
Responsible for the development, configuration, implementation, and on-going support of the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other supporting IT systems for Penn State Health systems. This role involves working closely with clinical, operational, financial services, and administrative staff to optimize the use of the Epic system, ensuring it meets the needs of the healthcare organization and supports the delivery of high-quality patient care., * Engagement with Teams: Assist in planning, design, configuration, testing, and implementation of Epic EMR modules by collaborating with various clinical teams, business operations, and cross-functional IS teams.
- Documentation: Create documentation of business requirements, current and future state workflows to aid in system design and configuration.
- Technical Analysis: Utilize technical and analytical skills to determine the best approaches for tailoring the system to meet Penn State Health's goals of standardization across the health system.
- Testing: Participate in testing activities, including writing test scripts, conducting functional and integration testing, and resolving issues.
- Meetings: Attend and/or facilitate team and project meetings to discuss activities, work tasks, and issues related to the team and project.
- Go-Live Support: Provide support during go-live events, including both standard and off-hours support.
- Project Management: Manage small to medium sized projects with minimal managerial oversight, developing key project management tools such as project plans, issues logs, testing plans, and go-live events.
- Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between IS, customers, and/or vendors, and participate in meetings with all operational areas using the software application.
- Technical Support: Provide continuous technical support and troubleshooting for Epic EMR users, ensuring timely resolution of system-related issues.
- System Maintenance: Conduct regular system maintenance tasks, including software updates, patch installations, firewall requests, vulnerabilities, cyber exceptions, server certificates, and system backups, to ensure efficient and secure system operations. Follow IS-defined change control processes and coordinate with the Epic Environment and Release Manager to keep all environments up to date.
- Data Management: Manage and maintain accurate data within the Epic system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards and audits.
- Workflow Optimization: Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze and optimize workflows, enhancing system functionality and user experience through recommended improvements.
- Cyber Risk Assessments: Complete cyber risk assessments, documents, and network diagrams (initial and renewals) for supported applications.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by communicating in a friendly and professional manner, empathizing with users regarding system issues, and setting appropriate expectations for issue resolution.
- On-Call Duties: Participate in on-call support for one or more applications, addressing incidents that arise outside of business hours.
- Vendor Collaboration: Collaborate with vendor support personnel to research and resolve vendor product issues. Participate in vendor user groups and online listservs, and review vendor updates to optimize the capabilities of assigned applications.
- Cross-Training: Engage in cross-training activities, both as a trainer and a learner, for personal development and to ensure adequate secondary coverage for all applications.
- Guidance: Offer technical and professional guidance to less experienced resources as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field or minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Four-Six (4-6) years of experience in the analysis, design, build, testing, and maintenance of Epic EMR or other EMR applications, with a strong understanding of healthcare workflows related to electronic medical record systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
- Experience implementing/supporting information systems utilized in Endoscopy and Bronchoscopy clinical settings.
- Epic certification preferred. If not certified, must complete Epic certification as assigned in related application within 6 weeks after last training class.
