Job description
The Engineer III, System Security Engineer plays a key role in protecting the firm's enterprise computing environment by designing, implementing, and operating foundational security controls across endpoints, operating systems, and device access. This is a hands-on engineering position within the System Security team, partnering closely with infrastructure, identity, risk, and application teams to reduce risk while enabling the business. Engineers in this role work on initiatives aligned to modern security strategies such as zero trust, endpoint protection, device authentication, and system hardening, while continuing to deepen their technical expertise and broaden their impact across the enterprise.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and operate enterprise system security controls that protect endpoints, operating systems, and device access.
- Contribute to security initiatives such as zero trust, endpoint protection, system hardening, and device authentication.
- Partner cross-functionally with infrastructure, identity, application, and risk teams to embed security into technology solutions.
- Identify security risks and recommend pragmatic improvements that balance protection, usability, and business needs.
- Provide operational support for critical security platforms to ensure availability, resilience, and rapid issue resolution.
- Lead moderate-complexity security initiatives and contribute to larger, cross-team security efforts.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and best practices.
Requirements
What Experience You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 4-6 years of experience in systems engineering, security engineering, or a closely related technical role.
- Hands-on experience implementing or supporting system security controls (e.g., endpoint protection, OS hardening, device access).
- Working knowledge of Windows and/or Linux environments, including basic security configuration and hardening concepts.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional technical teams to deliver security-focused solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and recommend practical remediation.
- Ability to learn new security tools, platforms, and domains through hands-on experience.
What Could Set You Apart
- Experience with endpoint security platforms, device authentication, or zero-trust-aligned technologies.
- Exposure to PKI, certificate lifecycle management, or certificate-based authentication.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, or similar configuration management tools.
- Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python, shell scripting) for efficiency or troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of CIS benchmarks, vulnerability remediation practices, or system hardening standards.
- Industry certifications (e.g., Security+, SSCP, CISSP, or similar).
