Job description

  • Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a versatile IT Systems Engineer - Cybersecurity & Automation (ISSO/DevSecOps)to support both classified and unclassified computing environments at our Huntsville, AL site.
  • This hybrid role combines responsibilities of an ISSO, systems administrator, cybersecurity engineer, and DevSecOps automation engineer. The ideal candidate will maintain secure and compliant lab operations, support RMF and eMASS activities, administer Windows and Linux systems, and develop automation across GitLab CI/CD pipelines., * Manage Windows and Linux systems in classified and unclassified lab environments
  • Perform system installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance
  • Maintain hardware, firmware, and software baselines across lab assets
  • Monitor and address hardware obsolescence in support of development programs
  • Coordinate with Valkyrie IT for configuration changes, acquisition of equipment, and decommissioning/disposal processes
  • Provide user support for engineering and development teams operating in lab environments
  • Maintain secure network configurations and lab infrastructure in accordance with DoD policies

Cybersecurity / ISSO Responsibilities

  • Implement STIGs, perform vulnerability remediation, and support continuous monitoring activities
  • Support development, maintenance, and documentation of RMF package artifacts
  • Manage and maintain compliance documentation, workflows, and control evidence within eMASS
  • Conduct system scans, audit preparation, and compliance reporting
  • Ensure alignment with NIST 80053, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and applicable security frameworks

DevSecOps & Automation

  • Develop and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including runners, unit tests, and automated build/deploy workflows
  • Build and deploy containerized applications using Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes
  • Develop automation scripts and tools using Python to optimize maintenance, security, and DevSecOps processes
  • Implement automation solutions to improve delivery speed and operational efficiency
  • Work closely with Agile development teams to support secure design, integration, and deployment activities
  • Create and maintain reusable CI/CD pipeline components and shared libraries to support multiple programs

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, or equivalent experience and and at least 5 years of experience.
  • Must have a Security+ certification (or equivalent IAT II).
  • Must have experience administering Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Must have hands on experience with OS patching, hardening, STIGs, and vulnerability remediation
  • Must have experience with RMF processes and eMASS.
  • Must have python scripting for automation and operational tooling.
  • Must have experience with GitLab CI/CD (or comparable tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins).
  • Must have the ability to understand and apply application security tools such as SAST, DAST, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Must have familiarity with network security fundamentals (firewalls, zero trust, encryption)

Desired Qualifications:

  • CISSP or CISM certification, preferred.
  • Experience managing classified laboratory environments, preferred.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization technologies (Docker, Podman), preferred.
  • Experience with Azure or cloud security principles, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Identity & Access Management (IAM), preferred.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet, preferred.
  • Experience with collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Teams), preferred.

Security Requirements:

  • Must have Active Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain it.

Travel Reuirements:

  • Travel required; 10% or less

Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time
