Job description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Operations Engineering team, supporting a suite of internal systems critical to the performance and reliability of our enterprise insurance platform. In this role, you'll triage and debug customer-impacting issues, perform impact analysis, monitor system health, and remediate policy/order-related failures, while also building robust backend tools that help operations teams do the same at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and debug customer-impacting production incidents, identify root causes, and drive fixes through to resolution (including follow-ups and prevention).

  • Lead/participate in RCAs and post-incident reviews; write clear incident timelines and implement corrective/preventative actions.

  • Participate in on-call rotations helping to improve system reliability and operational response.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Support, Product, and Engineering to understand business pain points, provide feedback, and help drive improvements across the product and operational workflows.

  • Develop and maintain backend tools and services that support operational workflows, including issue triage, order/policy remediation, and improvements that reduce MTTD/MTTR.

  • Build internal dashboards, monitoring frameworks, and alerting systems to provide visibility into operational health and KPIs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience debugging production systems: reading logs/metrics/traces, isolating root cause, and implementing durable fixes.

  • Experience participating in an on-call rotation and handling incident triage with calm prioritization and clear communication.

  • 3+ years of experience in backend software development using Node.js.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (such as Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, etc.)

  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Experience building internal tools, automation scripts, and operational dashboards.

  • Understanding microservices, APIs, and backend architecture principles to design and develop effective internal tools and operational workflows.

  • Familiarity with software development best practices: testing, version control, CI/CD.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of investigating ambiguous production issues and improving reliability.

  • Experience working in enterprise software, especially within healthcare, insurance, finance, or regulated industries.

  • Experience working with monitoring/observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.

  • Experience with big data processing platforms (e.g., Databricks or similar) is a huge plus.

  • Hybrid Role, Once a week in office (GA)

Benefits & conditions

  • Health Benefits: Comprehensive, multi-carrier program for medical, dental and vision benefits
  • Retirement Benefits: 401(k) with match and an Employee Share Purchase Plan
  • Wellbeing: Wellness platform with incentives, Headspace app subscription, Employee Assistance and Time-off Programs
  • Short-and-Long Term Disability, Life and Accidental Death Insurance, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity
  • Family Benefits, including bonding and family care leaves, adoption and surrogacy benefits
  • Health Savings, Health Care, Dependent Care and Commuter Spending Accounts
  • In addition to annual Paid Time Off, we offer up to two days of paid leave each to participate in Employee Resource Groups and to volunteer with your charity of choice
