The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Release of Information Coordinator to join our team. Under the General direction of the Director of Medical Records this position is responsible for the Release of Information (ROI) in Central Medical Records (CMR). Performs related records functions including retrieving consumer charts, copying, tracking, data entry and filing. Provide release of information training to service units. Assists with the development and review of Agency Records Administration Policy and Procedures. Responsible for delivery of records to court in response to a court subpoena or court order.
Your role in action:

Responds to request to disclose protected health information in compliance with federal/state guidelines.

Responsible for delivery of records to court in response to a court subpoena and/or court order.

Provides release of information training for service sites.

Enter documentation of release of information in EPIC.

Upload completed authorization to disclose health information forms in EPIC.

Completes other related projects and duties as assigned

Provides release of information training for service sites Health Information Technicians within 10 days of request.

Process all written requests for disclosure of information within fifteen (15) business days of receipt.

Respond to phone calls pertaining to release of information within one (1) business day.

Ensure all Authorization to Disclose Health Information forms are filed in the chart and entered in chart control within assigned timeframe.

Enter documentation of release of information from service sites in Chart Control within (30) days of receipt.

Projects and /or assignments completed within specified deadlines.
Requirements

High School diploma or General Education degree (GED) required.

Associate degree with certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from the American Health Information Management Association with 1 year of medical records experience preferred.
Experience:
- Must have two (2) years release of information experience in a medical record setting.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
Other Key Qualifications:
- Must have valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable under Agency policy.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A working understanding of medical record and documentation standards, organization, security and release of information requirements.

The individual must possess effective oral and written communication skills and mathematical aptitude.

Displays sound judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.

Possesses basic understanding, ability and aptitude in computer programs; electronic medical record,

Microsoft Word 9/Excel/Access programs, file management, email, Internet use and keyboarding.
