Job description

The GIS Analyst - Senior serves as a technical resource to provide mapping, data services, and geographical information system (GIS) process, discipline, and architectural leadership to all City departments., Departmental GIS Services

  • Serve as a technical liaison with City departments.
  • Establish standards for City departments' use of GIS, including design, implementation, publishing, and maintenance of GIS data, applications, and services.
  • Provide GIS solutions to departments by translating business needs into technical solutions and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Lead departmental GIS implementations by conducting intake, facilitating requirements gathering, defining solution approach/architecture, and coordinating delivery activities, including configuration/development, data readiness, testing, deployment, training, and support transition.
  • Provide technical solution architecture for City departments.
  • Support and advise City employees approved to use GIS applications.

GIS Development and Maintenance

  • Administer, maintain, and support Enterprise Esri Aeronautical Reconnaissance Coverage Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) environments, including configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and coordination of maintenance activities.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automation to support GIS operations and publishing workflows using Python for ArcGIS and GIS modeling tools.
  • Establish repeatable, documented processes for scheduled and on-demand tasks such as dataset builds, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks, and publishing.
  • Establish and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and standards to promote consistent GIS configuration, publishing practices, and supportability across City departments.

  • Two years of professional-level experience working in a GIS analyst role, including the use of ESRI ArcGIS.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered., * Knowledge of automated mapping/GIS principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of GIS theory and application.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python.
  • Ability to write complex algorithms related to GIS.
  • Ability to utilize ESRI ArcGIS software products to perform mapping and maintenance functions.
  • Ability to use SQL Server scripting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and policies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues to ensure consistent functionality.
  • Ability to utilize, read, and understand technical documentation and policies.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to apply and promote GIS best practices for application and service lifecycle management.

  • Verbal communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate concepts to a variety of audiences.
