Job description

WindWright is supporting wind tunnel testing and facility development efforts with defense and commercial applications. WindWright seeks a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer to support aerodynamic, thermal, propulsion, optics, and integration testing for an existing high-speed wind tunnel. Candidates must have experience with aerodynamics testing. Experience with aerospace vehicle development, propulsion development, wind tunnel testing, or wind tunnel facility design in the high-speed regime is highly desired.

In this role, you will support all aspects of wind tunnel testing at WindWright. Your responsibilities will include defining test requirements based on facility capabilities and customer inputs, developing test plans for customer tests and internal testing efforts, overseeing test article design and build efforts, specifying test instrumentation, executing tests, analyzing simulation and test data, and documenting results., * Collaborate with customers and teammates to define wind tunnel test campaigns

  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure alignment on test objectives and requirements
  • Develop detailed test plans, including objectives, methodologies, schedules, and resource requirements
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to procure models and equipment that meet project specifications
  • Prepare and review test procedures, ensuring they meet project and safety standards
  • Set up and conduct wind tunnel tests according to the approved test plan and procedures
  • Analyze test results to identify trends, anomalies, and key performance metrics
  • Identify, document, and communicate design requirements, constraints, and risks
  • Support the preparation of business proposals to the US Government and industry
  • Travel, as needed, to support the company
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

  • Strong understanding of aerothermodynamic principles for high-speed flows
  • Experience with data reduction software and tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance at the TS/SCI level, * Experience with high-speed aerothermal and/or propulsion testing
  • Knowledge of, or experience with high-speed flight vehicles, engines, or ground test facilities
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition development
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance

Required Computer Skills:

  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software tools
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Education/experience/certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in wind tunnel testing or a related field
