Job description

The Customer Care Technology team delivers exceptional customer service experiences to millions of Walmart customers and agents worldwide. Comprising software engineers, data scientists, and machine learning experts, the team advances GenAI technology within complex enterprise systems. As part of Walmart Global Tech's Enterprise Business Systems, the team collaborates closely with product, business, and UX partners to drive measurable business outcomes. Focused on innovation, reliability, and scalability, the team leverages cloud-native architectures and AI agents to enhance operational excellence and customer impact, supporting Walmart's mission to help customers save money and live better.

As a Distinguished Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence. This role requires translating strategic objectives into robust technical solutions while fostering collaboration across engineering teams. You will champion best practices in software development, continuous integration, and system reliability, driving innovation and continuous improvement. By mentoring engineers and guiding technical decisions, you will contribute to delivering high-quality, resilient services that align with enterprise standards and support Walmart's commitment to excellence and customer value.

What you'll do...

What you'll do:

  • Lead design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems and intelligent automation solutions.
  • Translate domain-level strategies into system-level implementations, ensuring architectural integrity and reliability.
  • Encourages experimentation and learning to drive ongoing improvement
  • Champion DevOps and CI/CD practices to maintain operational readiness, observability, and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, code reviews, and incident management.
  • Own end-to-end software lifecycle, ensuring systems are resilient, scalable, and production-ready.
  • Mentor engineers across teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high standards.
  • Identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks, driving automation and process improvements to increase engineering velocity.
  • Works effectively across teams, openly shares knowledge, and communicates complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical solutions implementation?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * At least 12 years of software engineering experience, leading design and development of scalable, cloud-native software systems and AI-powered solutions.

  • Proven ability to translate domain-level strategies into reliable, high-quality system implementations.
  • Strong expertise in operational excellence, including DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and incident management.
  • Experience working with Java and React.
  • Demonstrated skill in driving architectural decisions that prioritize extensibility, maintainability, and security compliance. Balance long-term "big picture" considerations with short-term implications.
  • Effective mentorship and leadership capabilities to foster engineering excellence and continuous learning.
  • Proficiency in identifying and resolving system bottlenecks while automating processes to enhance developer productivity.
