Job description
Our product platform team builds the common infrastructure and shared service capabilities that underpin every Bamboo Health product line. As a Cloud Engineer on the platform team, you will contribute to the design, delivery, and operation of the foundational cloud systems that power Bamboo Health at scale.
This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to learn cloud technologies in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and architects, take on real ownership of platform components, and grow your skills across infrastructure, automation, reliability, and security.
The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, and motivated to build systems that matter. You don't need to have all the answers - you need to be eager to learn, ask good questions, and grow into the role.
What You'll Do:
- Build, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure components on AWS, working from defined requirements and under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Write and update infrastructure as code (Terraform or CFN) to provision and manage cloud resources reliably and repeatably.
- Monitor platform health, investigate alerts, and participate in incident response and on-call rotations.
- Support CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance to improve developer experience and deployment reliability.
- Contribute to documentation for platform services, runbooks, and architecture decisions.
- Participate in code and design reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback as part of the team's development culture.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to help them understand and use platform services effectively.
- Identify and surface technical issues, bugs, or improvement opportunities - you don't need to solve everything alone, but you should speak up when something's not right.
- Explore opportunities to enhance workflows through AI or automation tools (e.g., document summarization, task routing, or data parsing).
- Identify repetitive tasks and partner with team leads to implement scalable automation solutions.
What Success Looks Like...
In 3 months...
- Understand the core components of Bamboo Health's cloud platform, how they fit together, and the team's development and deployment processes.
- Have shipped at least one meaningful contribution - a bug fix, infrastructure improvement, or documentation update - with support from your team.
- Be actively participating in team meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions.
- Begin incorporating AI-supported tools into your day-to-day work-whether through analysis, documentation, or task management.
- In 6 months...
- Independently pick up and deliver well-scoped tasks with minimal supervision.
- Have a working understanding of the AWS services most critical to the platform (EKS/ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, and related services).
- Contribute to on-call rotations and be able to triage and escalate incidents confidently.
In 12 months...
- Own one or more platform components end-to-end - from changes to production monitoring.
- Be a reliable, contributing member of the team who others turn to for help on the areas you've learned.
- Be actively working toward P2 readiness with a clear development plan co-created with your manager.
Requirements
- A mission-driven focus with a genuine interest in using technology to improve healthcare outcomes.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Some hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) - whether through internships, personal projects, coursework, or early professional roles.
- Familiarity with at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Basic understanding of networking, compute, and storage concepts in a cloud context.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and working in a collaborative development environment.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to ask for help, share what you're learning, and work through problems with your team.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a growth mindset - you're here to learn and you take feedback well.
- Exposure to infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or similar).
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) even at a basic level.
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts or tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CodePipeline, or similar).
- Exposure to healthcare technology, HL7/FHIR, or working with sensitive regulated data.
- AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect Associate, or similar).
- Comfort using or learning AI-supported tools (e.g., ChatGPT, CoPilot, or role-specific tools) to improve daily workflows.
- A forward-thinking, curious mindset with an openness to experimenting with new technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and creativity in designing solutions.
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth, and rapidly evolving environments.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment, ensuring high-quality virtual interactions with minimal distractions.
- The ability to travel periodically for work.
