Job description
Leidos' Defense is seeking a Sensor Systems Operations Lead to join our team supporting a critical defense system in the National Capital Region. The Operations Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight, health, and performance of a sensor system. This role ensures system reliability through continuous monitoring, testing, performance analysis, and coordinated response to alarms and system issues. The Operations Lead also manages watchdesk operations and operational end-user engagements., System Health & Monitoring
- Monitor overall system health to ensure reliable and continuous sensor system operation
- Oversee alarm monitoring and issue escalation to ensure timely resolution
- Perform network monitoring to identify connectivity, latency, or availability issues and coordinate resolution with IT lead as required
- Monitor operational server room environment and coordinate with IT, engineering and maintenance leads to resolve any issues
System Testing & Performance
- Plan and execute system testing to validate functionality and operational readiness
- Conduct system performance analysis to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities
- Document test results, system metrics, and performance findings
- Manage all modeling and simulation efforts for the sensor system
Watchdesk Operations
- Manage watchdesk scheduling to ensure required coverage
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for watchdesk activities
- Provide guidance and support to watchdesk personnel
Operations Leadership
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact with the operational and test communities for the sensor system
- Coordinate with engineering, IT, and other stakeholders during incidents and system changes
- Identify opportunities to improve monitoring, processes, and operational efficiency

- Process improvement mindset, * BS degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience in in a technical or quantitative discipline, such as Engineering, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience) or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience.in a technical or quantitative discipline, such as Engineering, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience supporting or operating technical systems in an operations environment
- Familiarity with sensor systems, networks, or distributed systems
- Experience with alarm monitoring, incident response, or system operations
- Ability to support after-hours or on-call maintenance activities
- Resident of Bowie, MD or willing to relocate to the Bowie, MD area.
- Must be a US citizen, possess and maintain an active secret clearance., * Experience leading operations or watchdesk teams
- Knowledge of system and network monitoring tools
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities
