Job description
The Central RME Global Jam Program (GJP) team is responsible for driving positive, data-driven change across Amazon's North American material handling operations. We analyze jam DPMO data to identify areas of concern and implement meaningful solutions to support sites struggling with high jam occurrences and jam duration hours.
As an Automation Solution Engineer on the GJP team, you will execute programs focused on jam reduction, SCADA systems, OEE analysis, technology integration, and developing permanent corrective actions to complex issues affecting multiple sites. You'll collaborate with field RME teams, conduct site health analyses, implement the enhanced GJP process at under performing facilities, and support pilot projects through change management documentation and capital request proposals. This is a regional role with travel expected across North America., Lead and execute complex jam reduction initiatives across multiple North American sites, demonstrating strong self-direction and ownership of outcomes

Manage cross-functional projects from initiation through completion, coordinating with field RME teams, operations, and central engineering groups to deliver measurable results

Drive continuous improvement efforts using data-driven methodologies (Six Sigma principles preferred) to systematically reduce jam DPMO and improve equipment reliability

Independently prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely delivery and stakeholder alignment

Develop and implement permanent corrective actions (PCAs) and best practices that can be scaled across the network

Conduct comprehensive site health analyses and audits, identifying root causes and leading teams to sustainable solutions

Mentor and develop field engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence

Communicate complex technical issues and project status effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Proactively identify opportunities for automation and process optimization to enhance operational efficiency

Travel regularly to support sites, lead on-site assessments, and ensure successful implementation of jam reduction strategies
Requirements
- Ability to take the lead and be the subject matter expert within an engineering team, a specific technology or end to end system
- Ability to develop code on different platforms
- Drive the creation of tools that automate and streamline processes to make fleet operations more efficient and simplify manual processes used in hardware / software provisioning and management
- Experience in solving complex issues across controls, fieldbus and IT platforms
- Knowledge of process flow
- Proven ability to analyze metrics and leverage them for process optimization
- Working knowledge of warehouse control systems and telegrams
- Strong ability to communicate complex problems across business teams
- Run and lead FC and regional controls projects
- Experience in advising and steering vendor projects
- Experience in leading or being a signatory in a change management process
- Ability to identify patterns affecting the performance, reliability, or availability of a product or service and remove those from the system using automation or other technical innovations
- Excellent skills in diagnosing the technology involved in a system due to a cross-domain understanding
- Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Being a point of technical reference and escalation for FC Automation Engineers, engineering teams, operational teams and other business stakeholders, within a FC, Hub of FC's or Region
- Sound knowledge of machinery safety regulations and safe working practices
- Driving and developing standards and processes as part of a regional initiative
- Experience working in national or international groups of engineers
- Strong desire to develop themselves and other team members
- Identify skill and knowledge gaps within Controls Teams
- Deliver technical and non-technical system training to different business groups
- Experience supporting or developing IT systems like IP networks, Linux, SQL databases and cloud technology, * Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes, * Experience with distributed systems at scale
- 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
