Job description

We are transforming how we solve challenging and impactful business and technical problems in Growth Tech by maximizing agentic development tools such as Code Puppy, Claude Code and OpenAI Codex. We will use AI coding agents extensively across plan, spec, design, implementation, testing, refactoring, documentation, and operational workflows while developing practical standards for building scalable, reliable, secure production systems.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer and technical leader who can both ship high-quality, scalable systems and define the engineering practices for AI-agent-native development. As the Distinguished Software Engineer, you will lead the team in redesigning how work is specified, delegated to coding agents, reviewed by humans, tested, integrated, secured, and released, while embedding system architecture best practices directly into agentic coding workflows. You will enhance the team's effectiveness through mentorship, collaboration, and thought leadership, advocating for ideas that optimize for long-term success while maintaining business momentum. Your role will have a significant impact on the organization and Walmart's business growth. If you thrive in a dynamic environment and are eager to lead and innovate, we invite you to apply.

About the team Our team operates at the intersection of software engineering, data, AI systems, and rapid experimentation. We build platforms that enable intelligent automation at scale, ranging from agent orchestration to customer-facing AI systems.

We emphasize iteration speed, practical impact, and systems that learn from usage. The work often involves ambiguous problem spaces where we define patterns as we build them. What You'll Do

  • Own the architecture and technical strategy
  • Be a role model in building scalable, reliable and secure software using Agentic coding tools
  • Lead and mentor an AI-agent-native engineering team
  • Redesign SDLC practices for agentic coding
  • Encode architecture and engineering standards into agent workflows
  • Define human review/governance practices
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to achieve our long-term business goals.
  • Champion operational and engineering excellence.

Requirements

  • At least 8+ years of software engineering experience in building highly available systems.

  • Proven track record of building successful software systems from inception to deployment.

  • Proven track record of building solutions that solve highly complex business problems.

  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Code Puppy, Claude Code, Codex, or similar systems in production development workflows.

  • Familiarity with agentic coding workflows involving repository instruction files, tool permissions, MCP-style integrations, automated test execution, and multi-agent or parallel task execution.

  • Expertise in service-oriented architecture, CI/CD, and operational excellence best practices.

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, with the ability to make design trade-offs, balancing long-term "big picture" considerations with short-term implications of design decisions.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, influence, and persuasion skills.

  • Proven track record of mentoring and coaching engineers in technical problem-solving and career development.

  • Curiosity and strong ability to learn new domains and technologies.

  • Ability to deal with highly ambiguous problem space., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.
