Job description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support the File Transfer Services (FTS) modernization initiative for the State of Michigan. The role will focus on migrating existing MessageWay customers to the MOVEit Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform while ensuring secure, scalable, and compliant file transfer operations.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in MOVEit and MessageWay platforms, scripting automation, SDLC practices, and enterprise-level file transfer architectures. This role requires strong analytical, troubleshooting, and customer-facing skills to support critical statewide data exchange operations.
Project Background
The File Transfer Service (FTS) has been a critical statewide system since 1997, supporting secure exchange of millions of files between state departments and trusted internal/external partners. The system supports all data classifications and provides secure transfers, notifications, retries, auditing, and automation capabilities.
As part of the modernization initiative, the State is transitioning all MessageWay customers to the MOVEit platform to expand automation and file transfer capabilities. The migration effort is expected to continue over approximately two years., * Support migration of existing MessageWay customers to the MOVEit platform
- Customize, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain MOVEit and MessageWay solutions
- Design and implement secure managed file transfer solutions
- Develop, test, document, package, and deploy automation scripts
- Assist customers in designing file transfer solutions aligned with business and technical requirements
- Analyze and resolve system, network, and file transfer issues
- Collaborate with stakeholders, technical teams, and management across multiple departments
- Maintain strategic plans supporting project and organizational objectives
- Support SDLC activities including design, testing, deployment, and operational support
- Ensure compliance, security, auditing, and operational reliability of file transfer services
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience working with MOVEit and MessageWay platforms
- Strong expertise in MOVEit and MessageWay customization, configuration, troubleshooting, and customer support
- 7+ years of experience with MOVEit and MessageWay database architecture
- Strong experience developing and deploying automation scripts
- Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting
- Experience with enterprise file transfer systems and secure data exchange
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, * Experience working within government or public-sector environments
- Familiarity with enterprise networking and secure data transfer protocols
- Experience with large-scale migration or modernization initiatives
- Knowledge of compliance, audit, and security standards for managed file transfer systems
- Experience supporting high-volume enterprise file transfer operations
