Job description
- scientific service in research within the FAIRmat project
- provide scientific software services through contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, specification, implementation, testing, versioning, release, and change management, as well as user support
- perform development tasks both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- work on interdisciplinary projects with partner institutions, addressing real-world challenges in materials science
- present project results at (inter)national workshops and conferences, and contribute to scientific publications
- tasks for personal scientific qualification
Requirements
- completed scientific university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) or Ph.D. in physics, materials science, computer science, or a related field
- solid domain knowledge of scientific workflows in materials science (e.g., synthesis, experimentation, or theory)
- strong object-oriented programming skills in Python
- experience working in Unix-based environments (primarily Linux)
- experience with Git and CI/CD tools and practices
- experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerization technologies
- experience with databases (ideally MongoDB and Elasticsearch)
- familiarity with modern web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, Material UI)
- experience with NOMAD or similar research data management platforms is desirable
- strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in an agile software development environment
- excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (minimum C1), Master Degree or equivalent

FAIRmat (www.fairmat-nfdi.eu) stands for FAIR Data Infrastructure for Condensed-Matter Physics and the Chemical Physics of Solids and is a consortium within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). FAIRmat is building a FAIR data infrastructure for materials science and related research fields. The consortium is also developing NOMAD (www.nomad-lab.eu), an open-source and customizable platform for research data management across synthesis, experimentation, and computation, and operates a public deployment that is among the world's largest data repositories in computational materials science.
Our highly dynamic and international team consists of members from software development, condensed matter physics/chemistry, and materials science.
