Job description

We're looking for a strong Java API Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team focused on building and scaling backend services. This role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable APIs that power critical business applications.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in Java-based microservices, has a strong grasp of API design best practices, and is comfortable operating in a cloud-based, production environment.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Java

Develop scalable microservices using frameworks like Spring Boot

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, product, DevOps) to define and implement API requirements

Ensure APIs are performant, reliable, and secure (handling latency, error handling, retries, etc.)

Integrate with internal and external systems (databases, third-party APIs, messaging platforms)

Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews

Troubleshoot production issues and support debugging, monitoring, and incident resolution

Contribute to API design decisions, including versioning, documentation, and best practices

Participate in CI/CD pipelines, testing, and deployment processes

Support ongoing improvements in system scalability, reliability, and performance

Requirements

5+ years of experience in Java development

  • Strong experience building APIs using Spring Boot or similar frameworks

  • Experience designing and developing REST APIs and GraphQL

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or ORM tools like Hibernate/JPA

  • Experience with RKE

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows - Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Knowledge of API security (OAuth2, JWT, authentication/authorization)
  • Exposure to API gateways (Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway)
  • Experience with observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana)
