Job description
This position is in the E&S Baltimore and Partnered Sites supporting the Software Architecture organization. Software Architecture provides programs and initiatives with engineering talent focused on the development, maturation, application, incorporation, and support of software architecture across a broad portfolio of mission systems.
As the Software manager you are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the people, resources and processes required to deliver software solutions. Additionally, you are responsible for managing people performance, providing excellent staff resources to programs, and the career development of employees.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical oversight of design, development, and integration of software components
- Engage with business leaders and customers to understand and drive business execution
- Support the team in identifying and addressing impediments to the attainment of goals, including taking action to remove impediments where appropriate
- Drive sustainable continuous improvement, including by collating and deriving insights from data
- Generate proposal and estimates inputs for new work
- Lead the team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools using Agile development methodology
- Guide the team in compliance with the Internal Software Development Plan (iSDP) and the Agile Development Plan (ADP)
- Coordinate with other disciplines when needed such as Systems and Hardware
- Candidates must have strong communication and people leadership skills
- Manage a staff of up to 15 direct reports
- Set, track, and measure employee performance expectations
- Guide employees regarding career development
- Provide technical and business coaching and mentoring
- Communicate direction from the higher-level organization and uphold principles of the organization
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields) with 8 years of experience, Master's degree with 6 years of experience, Ph.D. with 4 years of experience.
- US Citizenship Required
- An active/current DoD Secret clearance. Secret clearance is required to start. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
- 3 years of experience as a Software Engineering/Development Team Leader
- Prior experience leading a software development team
- 2 years identifying risks, suggesting mitigation, tracking defects, developing resolutions, and reporting status.
- Working knowledge of software architecture and open standards in use by the defense industry, * Prior experience within an IPT lead role.
- Prior CAM (Cost Account Management) experience.
- Working knowledge of Linux or VxWorks operating systems
- Management of budget for technical activities
- Experience with SonarQube and/or KlocWork tools
- Experience with Gitlab
- Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Jenkins, and DevSecOps best practices
- Experience generating proposals and estimates inputs for new work
- Prior software functional management experience (executing performance appraisals, staffing allocations, software process leadership, and career goals development)
Benefits & conditions
Primary Level Salary Range: $153,800.00 - $230,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
