Symetra is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Data Analytics to help drive our transformation into a datadriven enterprise focusing on our annuities and retirement solutions division. In this senior leadership role, you'll shape strategy, lead highimpact analytics initiatives, and guide teams that build the insights and capabilities powering our business decisions.
About the role
In this role, you will lead crossfunctional teams-including data engineers, architects, developers, BI analysts, and data scientists-to deliver analytics solutions that make a meaningful impact across Symetra. You'll partner closely with business and technology leaders to understand needs, design datadriven strategies, and execute plans that support innovation, efficiency, revenue growth, and an exceptional customer experience.
What You will Do

Strategic Leadership & Partnership

Develop and implement Symetra's data and analytics strategy in collaboration with IT leaders and business partners.

Build strong partnerships across sales, marketing, customer experience, underwriting, claims, actuarial, innovation, and other teams.

Find opportunities to improve efficiency, generate revenue, and enhance customer experience through analytics.

Establish clear key performance indicators, return on investment metrics, and data literacy initiatives across the organization.
Advanced Analytics, AI & Modeling
- Drive innovation by leading both hands on and coaching efforts in descriptive analytics, predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
- Apply sound judgment in selecting the right modeling approach-from simple to complex-based on business need and data maturity.
Data Management, Governance & BI
- Supervise the creation and maintenance of a stable, trusted, and scalable enterprise data environment.
- Promote high quality reporting and BI solutions that enable self-service analytics.
- Ensure responsible data usage and compliance with privacy guidelines.
- Enhance enterprise data assets through thoughtful integration of third-party data.
Team Leadership & Development

Lead and mentor technical teams, including direct and matrixed reports.

Requirements
- 10+ years of proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams.
- Hands on technical expertise with Python, DBT, and Snowflake.
- Proficiency with modern data mining, analytics, and visualization tools.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts clearly.
- Strategic problem solver with a track record of motivating change and building consensus.
- Demonstrated curiosity and familiarity with AI and its implications at the enterprise level of an organization.
- Skilled relationshipbuilder who can influence at all levels of the organization.
- Continuous learner who stays current on industry trends and emerging technologies.
- High School Diploma required, bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
- Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
