Job description

We are seeking a WSUS Technician to join our team. This position is based in Charleston, SC and will work closely with the IA team on US Navy Network Management systems utilizing Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) across multiple connected and disconnected domains.

You Will:

  • Responding to service requests and Engineering Change Requests (ECR) as required
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in the areas of design, installation, maintenance, and support of multiple operating systems and technologies
  • Perform testing of Microsoft and third-party software updates across multiple Windows domain environments
  • Participate in the development of new WSUS related Windows patching functionality
  • Assist with tier-3 troubleshooting of issues related to Windows patching functionality
  • Will coordinate with the customer to define and validate the requirements for feasibility of servicing Microsoft and Windows based third party product patching for their systems
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to existing patching processes

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred but experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • 3-5 years' experience supporting WSUS-related Windows patching efforts and initiatives
  • Must have 3-5 years' experience in technical specifications development, process analysis and design, technical problem solving and analytical / logical thinking
  • 3-5 years of working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, VLAN
  • Must have 3-5 years of working knowledge with Microsoft Server OSes and products such as WSUS, Exchange, IIS, SMS, System Center, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of using PowerShell for automating routine tasks
  • A working knowledge and experience in virtualization and shared storage
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ are desired
  • Red Hat patch management experience is desired. E.g. YUM, Satellite, etc.
  • Experience using Solarwinds Patch Manager
  • Certifications such as MCIPT, MCSA, MCSE
  • CompTIA Security+ CE is required
  • A CISSP certification is highly desired

We'd be Impressed if You Had:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years' experience in WSUS related Windows patching roles
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Proficiency with version control systems and collaborative development tools
  • Experience with configuration management and automation platforms (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Additional programming/scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Go)
