Job description

We are looking for a contract Data Analyst or MI or BI Analyst to support business reporting and insight across key stakeholders. This role suits someone who enjoys turning messy or fragmented information into clear dashboards, trusted metrics, and simple stories that help teams make better decisions. You will work closely with operational and delivery teams to understand what they need to measure, translate that into consistent KPIs, and deliver reporting that is accurate, easy to interpret, and genuinely useful.

A large part of the role is building and maintaining dashboards and recurring MI packs. You will take responsibility for ensuring metrics are defined properly, remain consistent over time, and are presented in a way that is intuitive for non technical stakeholders. That includes improving the quality of existing reports, reducing manual effort where possible, and ensuring the same metric means the same thing across different teams and audiences. You will also support regular reporting cycles such as weekly performance packs, operational KPIs, and management level summaries.

You will also own day to day data extraction and validation. This typically involves pulling data from multiple sources, cleaning and reshaping it, and checking it for gaps, duplicates, and anomalies before it reaches the dashboard. When something does not look right, you will investigate root causes, confirm assumptions with data owners, and propose fixes either in the reporting logic or upstream in the way data is captured. The goal is to build confidence in reporting so stakeholders trust the numbers and can act on them quickly., Stakeholder support is a key part of the role. You will engage with teams to capture reporting requirements, clarify what good looks like, define KPIs and thresholds, and explain insights in plain English. You will also handle ad hoc analysis requests, balancing speed with accuracy, and documenting definitions so reporting does not become repeated confusion. Over time, you will help create a simple reporting catalogue and definitions that reduce noise, improve alignment, and make reporting easier to scale.

Requirements

To be successful, you will need strong Excel skills, basic SQL skills for querying and validating datasets, and experience building dashboards in Power BI or Tableau or a similar tool. You should be comfortable working to deadlines, able to communicate clearly, and naturally curious. You will ask the right questions when numbers do not add up and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
