Job description
We are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled Lead Cloud Engineer to serve as a technical leader within our IT Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for guiding cloud engineering initiatives, shaping Infrastructure-as-Code standards, mentoring engineers, and driving the adoption of modern cloud and DevOps practices across the department.
The ideal candidate is an expert in Azure cloud engineering and Terraform, possesses strong hands-on implementation skills, and can lead others through influence, technical direction, and knowledge sharing. Experience with GitLab CI/CD, DevOps workflows, and AWS (preferred) will help support our hybrid cloud environment.
This role plays a key part in maturing our cloud ecosystem, establishing governance and best practices, and ensuring resilient, secure, and scalable cloud solutions., * Serve as the technical lead for cloud engineering efforts, ensuring best practices in design, implementation, security, and automation.
- Design and implement complex cloud infrastructure solutions using Terraform, GitLab based CI/CD pipelines, and cloud native services.
- Develop and maintain advanced IaC modules, patterns, and reusable templates for enterprise consumption.
- Evaluate new cloud technologies, establish roadmap recommendations, and guide modernization of infrastructure services.
Cloud Operations & Governance
- Oversee cloud operations related to resource performance, cost optimization, policy enforcement, and security posture.
- Assist with governance implementation including Azure Policy, management groups, tagging standards, and RBAC models.
- Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for significant cloud or hybrid infrastructure events.
- Contribute to hybrid cloud integration (Azure first, AWS as needed), ensuring secure and reliable connectivity and identity alignment.
Team Enablement & Mentorship
- Mentor and coach engineers of all levels on Terraform development, CI/CD patterns, Azure fundamentals, and cloud operational excellence.
- Lead technical workshops, training sessions, and cloud enablement initiatives for cross functional teams.
- Review and approve IaC changes, architectural designs, and pipeline enhancements to maintain quality and consistency.
- Partner with management to define cloud engineering standards, documentation practices, and onboarding paths.
Collaboration & Cross Functional Engagement
- Work closely with security, networking, application, and infrastructure teams to design end to end solutions.
- Provide technical leadership on cloud impact assessments, solution designs, cost analysis, and migration planning.
- Support project teams as a subject matter expert (SME) for Azure and Terraform solutions.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Terraform?, * 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure cloud engineering, including governance, networking, compute, storage, identity, and automation.
- 3+ years of experience with Terraform, including module development, state management, pipelines, and enterprise-scale patterns.
- Expert-level knowledge of GitLab, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles (shift-left security, automated testing, release pipelines, observability).
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership on complex projects.
- Advanced PowerShell or Python scripting skills for automation and operational support.
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices, identity and access concepts, and network segmentation.
Preferred
- Exposure to AWS cloud environments, IAM, EC2, VPC, S3, or related services.
- Knowledge of modern observability platforms and cloud monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel).
- Experience contributing to cloud governance, security frameworks, or compliance initiatives.
