Job description

Senior Mainframe Modernization Engineer for a 12-month engagement supporting a major NYC public-sector client.

You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of a critical IPIS mainframe environment - keeping legacy ADABAS/Natural and COBOL/CICS applications running in production while extracting, transporting, and loading data into a modernized stack built on SQL Server, SSIS, Azure, and Microsoft Dynamics 365.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who has lived in both worlds: the green-screen TSO/JCL environment and the modern Microsoft data ecosystem.

Duties

  • Maintain and administer production IPIS mainframe applications; ensure uptime, performance, and reliability
  • Extract data from ADABAS (IPIS), Natural (IPIS), CICS (TAS/MAS), COBOL (TAS/MAS), VSAM, and flat files
  • Use IBM utilities (IDCAMS, SORT, File Manager) for file inspection and validation
  • Write JCL to run programs and compile MAS data extraction routines
  • Conduct mainframe-to-Windows data transport using UC4 file transfer
  • Build SSIS packages (with KingswaySoft connectors) to load data into SQL Server and Dynamics 365
  • Support the development and rollout of an enterprise data archive solution
  • Participate in release management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Maintain clear, audit-ready technical documentation for all processes, code, and data flows
  • Collaborate weekly with the client's technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party consultants

Requirements

Do you have experience in Version control?, * 10+ years of professional mainframe development and administration experience

  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in ADABAS, Natural, COBOL, CICS, VSAM, and JCL
  • Proficiency with TSO as a development environment and IBM mainframe utilities (IDCAMS, SORT, File Manager)
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio, and complex SQL query development
  • Working knowledge of SSIS and KingswaySoft data tools, or equivalent ETL frameworks
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio Integration Services projects
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Git version control
  • Experience loading data into CRM / Dynamics 365
  • Strong written documentation skills - ability to produce technical artifacts that meet government audit standards
  • Ability to work onsite in NYC as required.
