Job description
The Senior Storage Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and operational support of enterprise storage, virtualization, and backup environments supporting a federal government customer. This role provides engineering expertise across Nutanix AHV, VMware, Cohesity, VDI, and enterprise infrastructure platforms operating within multiple secure network environments.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled infrastructure professional with experience supporting mission-critical systems, performing infrastructure upgrades, maintaining backup and recovery operations, and supporting cross-functional technical initiatives in a fast-paced federal environment., Storage & Virtualization Engineering Design, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise Nutanix AHV and VMware cluster environments across multiple secured networks.
- Build, upgrade, patch, and maintain Cohesity backup clusters and storage infrastructure.
- Perform lifecycle management activities including firmware, hypervisor, storage, and cluster upgrades.
- Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability across storage and virtualization environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, storage, and virtualization issues.
Backup, Recovery & Data Protection
- Administer and support enterprise backup and recovery operations using Cohesity.
- Monitor backup jobs and ensure all systems are successfully protected and compliant with backup policies.
- Perform server and application restores as required to support operational recovery needs.
- Validate backup integrity and disaster recovery readiness through regular testing and verification activities.
- Ensure backup environments meet security and operational standards required within federal environments.
VDI & Infrastructure Support

Support VMware Horizon 7 and Horizon 8 VDI environments, including troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

Assist with VDI provisioning, upgrades, and performance optimization.

Support infrastructure operations including:

DHCP scope additions and removals
-
Infoblox installation and configuration
-
DNS and IP address management tasks
Collaborate with server, networking, security, and application teams to support enterprise infrastructure operations.
Operational Support & Maintenance

Provide support during scheduled maintenance windows, including nights and weekends, for:

Power down activities
-
Storage maintenance
-
Hypervisor upgrades
-
Server maintenance
-
Application support activities
Participate in on-call rotations and support critical incident response activities.
Maintain operational documentation, configuration records, and standard operating procedures.
Customer & Team Collaboration
- Work closely with federal government customers and internal technical teams to support operational and project requirements.
- Provide technical assistance across infrastructure disciplines as needed, even outside primary day-to-day responsibilities.
- Support a customer-focused environment with strong communication, responsiveness, and professionalism.
- Contribute to infrastructure improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D; 16 years with HS.

5+ years of experience supporting enterprise storage, virtualization, and backup environments.

Hands-on experience with:

Nutanix AHV

VMware vSphere

VMware Horizon 7 and 8

Cohesity backup solutions
Experience managing clustered infrastructure environments across multiple networks.
Strong understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery principles.
Experience with DHCP, DNS, and Infoblox administration.
Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and storage-related issues.
Experience supporting maintenance activities during off-hours and weekends.
Active TS/SCI or Q/SCI Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with enterprise cybersecurity and compliance requirements.

Benefits & conditions
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
