Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Network Engineer to support a federal government customer in designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure within a mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Cisco networking technologies, network security, enterprise routing and switching, and secure government networking standards. This role requires strong technical leadership, hands-on engineering capabilities, and the ability to operate in secure and dynamic operational environments., Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure.

  • Plan and deploy standardized configurations across enterprise switching environments.

  • Lead migration efforts from End-of-Life (EOL) devices.

  • Design, deploy, and manage solutions for network access control and authentication services.

  • Implement and maintain DISA STIG hardening guidelines and security compliance standards across network infrastructure.

  • Support deployment and integration of encryption devices and manage cryptographic equipment imports.

  • Assist with fiber optic cabling installations, infrastructure upgrades, and connectivity troubleshooting.

  • Design and implement IP subnetting strategies and IP address management solutions.

  • Monitor and respond to incidents through internal ticketing systems while providing Tier III network support.

  • Travel to remote locations to deploy network infrastructure and extend enterprise services.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex networking issues involving:

  • Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)

  • Layer 2 switching

  • VOIP systems

  • Layer 1 cabling and physical connectivity

  • IPSec tunnels and Type-1 cryptographic equipment

Utilize SolarWinds and other network monitoring tools to proactively monitor network performance and generate operational reports.

Configure and maintain environmental monitoring systems and sensors within data centers and server rooms.

Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical documentation, and operational runbooks.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-training to junior network engineers and support personnel.

Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems engineering, and facilities teams to ensure reliable and secure network operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D; Minimum of 16 years with HS Diploma
  • 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure in complex environments.
  • Experience implementing DISA STIGs and secure network configurations in federal environments.
  • Knowledge of enterprise network security principles and best practices.
  • Experience supporting VOIP technologies and troubleshooting telecommunications issues.
  • Ability to read and understand network diagrams, technical documentation, and infrastructure schematics.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active TS/SCI or Q/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco certifications such as CCNP Enterprise or CCIE.
  • Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE) or other federal government agencies.
  • Knowledge of network automation and scripting tools.
  • Prior experience working in classified or secure operational environments.
