Job description

The system administrator is responsible for coordinating with Reliance IT Support Desk and Field Operations teams, providing on-site support to end users by installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining various types of software and hardware in support of our business offices and warehouses when applicable. The system administrator must be able to quickly evaluate business problems and work towards solutions through collaboration across the subsidiaries, shared services and Phoenix Metals. The system administrator must be articulate, process driven, and have a strong desire to deliver outstanding customer service. Physical Requirements

Job Function DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Denote essential functions)

  • Administer and support the IBM I and Visual LANSA environments, including provisioning, patching,configuration, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide Level 2 support.
  • Assist in remediating Rapid7 incidents.
  • Supervision of signature capture tablets through mobile device management.
  • Heavy coordination with a shared services team to track and manage incidents and requests involving cell phones, tablets, printers, PC's, etc.
  • Monitor systems and services, investigate alerts, perform root-cause analysis, and drive incident resolution and post-incident improvements.
  • Reviewing daily logs and troubleshooting if necessary.
  • Manage backup and recovery processes; regularly test restores and support disaster recovery planning and exercises.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, procedures, and asset inventories; contribute to change management and IT policy compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, security standards, audit requirements, and safety protocols.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Vulnerability management?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required.

  • 5+ years of experience in a System Administrator or similar infrastructure operations role required.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPN, DNS, DHCP) and common troubleshooting tools required.
  • Experience with patch management, vulnerability remediation, and applying security best practices (e.g., hardening, MFA, least privilege) required.
  • Proficiency with scripting/automation (PowerShell required; Bash/Python a plus) and a disciplined approach to documentation and change control required.
  • Proven ability to work independently with strong communication, prioritization, and customer-service skills required.
  • Experience with IBM i (AS400) preferred.
  • Experience with ServiceNow preferred.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills suitable for a corporate environment, including ticket updates and technical documentation required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues methodically and prevent recurrence required.
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to security, stability, and service quality required.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors, balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Ability to occasionally work after-hours maintenance windows and participation in an on-call rotation as needed to support critical systems required.
