Job description

Twilio is looking for a Principal Software Developer embedded within the Product organization to help drive growth for the next generation of the Twilio platform - designed to power the agentic future of customer conversations. In this role, you will serve as a hands-on, customer-facing technical expert, collaborating directly with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, GTM, and Developer Evangelism. You will deliver code, often open source, to demonstrate the power of Twilio, help prove product market fit, and as a first-best user of Twilio's APIs, show the art of the possible both internally to other teams and publicly to the world. This person will help us get our ideas out into the world and provide hands-on feedback in the earliest stages of product development, yielding signals that will directly impact the trajectory of what and how we build.

Responsibilities

In this role, you'll:

  • Design and deliver high-quality, solution-oriented code, including quickstart repos, "Hello World" POCs, and demos, that serve as inspiration and a model for builders to adopt.
  • Be the high-bandwidth bridge between the market and the roadmap. You'll translate raw customer friction and "agentic" trends into actionable product strategy, ensuring we build what builders actually need.
  • Build brand trust and authority by delivering high-impact conference talks, producing technical deep-dives and blogs, and contributing to open source projects that demonstrate the product's value to the broader developer ecosystem.
  • Actively partner with PMs, GTM, and Engineering teams to provide actionable feedback on technical and product direction, user experience, pain points, and systemic challenges. Help assemble complex Twilio products into cohesive solution blueprints.
  • Translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences including product managers, executives, non-technical stakeholders, and community members.
  • Work very closely with Solution Engineers, Developer Evangelists, and Customers to help them understand how to assemble Twilio products for agentic and non-agentic applications., * AI/Agentic Experience: Documented implementation of LLMs, RAG, and agentic frameworks into production-ready developer tools.

Requirements

Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!, * Systems Mastery: 7+ years architecting and operating high-scale cloud systems; expert in building resilient, distributed architectures.

  • AI and Polyglot Expert: Deep production experience in JS/TS and Python using AI-assisted development, setting the bar for modern, type-safe, and AI-integrated codebases.
  • API & DX Excellence: Proven mastery of RESTful design, setting the global standard for "best-in-class" Developer Experience.
  • Strategic Roadmap Influence: Ability to synthesize complex market friction into formal proposals that pivot engineering priorities.
  • Public Technical Voice: A recognized authority with a portfolio of high-impact open source, technical keynotes, or publications.
  • 0-to-1 Execution: A "Builder at Heart" capable of shipping the foundational JS/TS and Python reference code that inspires thousands.
  • Active in Cloud or AI open-source communities with documented projects, contributions, and thought leadership.
