Job description

The Computer System Engineer will administer all aspects of a distributed computer system supporting OVPR's operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing OVPR's servers, maintaining their security and functionality, coordinating with ITS on system integration, and supporting cloud-based services. This includes planning and coordinating system utilization, upgrades, and security; performing growth analyses and capacity planning; and supporting OVPR's MSSQL server environment, including its data warehouse and reporting services. This role requires independent decision-making on non-routine tasks, serving as a technical resource, and providing guidance to others on complex problems and processes. This is a 18 month limited term position based on funding. Responsibilities

  • Administer OVPR's servers, ensuring security, functionality, and optimal performance.
  • Support and manage OVPR's MSSQL server environment, including data warehouse and reporting services (SSRS).
  • Plan and coordinate system utilization, upgrades, capacity planning, and security measures.
  • Provide solutions for system administration and client/server or application performance issues.
  • Coordinate integration with cloud services, including ETLs, SSO, and vendor/ITS-supported connectivity.
  • Perform application installation, maintenance, user training, and support as required.
  • Document OVPR infrastructure, systems, and processes for long-term maintainability.
  • Serve as OVPR's Local Support Partner (LSP): manage patching, laptop imaging, and software implementation (e.g., Intune).
  • Administer key applications including Zoom.gov, DocuSign, COI, PAC, Visual SVN, IIS, Scribe, Redwood, and others.
  • Manage user accounts, onboarding/offboarding processes, and certificate management for OVPR systems.
  • Lead or coordinate projects to meet current and future technical needs.
  • Collaborate with ITS, vendors, and internal teams to ensure aligned and effective solutions.
  • Train and mentor colleagues on non-routine problems, work processes, and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience. (Relevant experience may substitute for a degree.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MSSQL server administration, including data warehousing and SSRS.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based integration, ETLs, and SSO.
  • Proficiency with systems such as Intune, Visual SVN, IIS, or similar platforms.
  • Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting a research or higher education environment.

Physical Demands This position primarily involves work at a desk using standard office equipment. The role may occasionally require movement of equipment up to 25 pounds and working outside normal business hours to address critical issues or perform upgrades.
