Job description

Clara Cares brings professional advice and support online so everyone can get help when they need it, in an accessible, secure, and privacy focused way. In close collaboration with non-profit organisations and public institutions, we are building an online infrastructure that integrates into people's lives regardless of age, education, income, or ability. Our platform connects users with counselling services across social and health domains from housing guidance to career orientation, care advice, and more and we're now scaling our systems to support the next phase of growth.

You will work closely with product, QA, mobile, DevOps, and data teams, designing and implementing backend services in Go, and ensuring they are observable, resilient, and easy to operate in production.

If you are experienced in Go, relational databases, and enjoy working with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and observability tooling and if you care about building backend services that are robust and a joy to work with, we want to hear from you.

Tasks

  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services in Go (APIs, background jobs, integrations)
  • Collaborate with frontend/mobile teams to design clear and stable API contracts
  • Work with relational databases (MySQL), write efficient queries and manage schema migrations
  • Contribute to performance testing and analyse results to suggest backend optimisation
  • Support DevOps in CI/CD pipeline design and improvements (GitHub Actions)
  • Participate in release management, including versioning, rollout and rollback strategies
  • Ensure services are observable (metrics, logs, traces) using Sentry, PostHog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch
  • Investigate and suggest improvements to current backend architecture and infrastructure setup

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development, ideally with Go in production
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with relational databases and SQL queries (e.g. MySQL)
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS (designing, deploying, and operating production workloads using services such as ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM)
  • Strong experience designing and implementing APIs, with deep knowledge of GraphQL (federated GraphQL APIs, schema design, resolver patterns, performance optimization, caching strategies)
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker)
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and cloud environments (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with different authentication and authorization strategies
  • Big plus: Experience with Ory Kratos authentication
  • Understanding of
  • CI/CD systems, working with or helping to design pipelines
  • Basic infrastructure concepts (networking, load balancing, security groups)
  • Cryptography and end-to-end encryption concepts
  • Event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS)
  • Infrastructure as code principles (e.g. Terraform)
  • Using go templates and code generation principles

Additional Skills

  • Proficient in English
  • German language skills are a plus
  • Proactive communication and team-player in a highly motivated team
  • Work independently and enjoy solving problems and learn new skills
  • Open to work in a highly international environment

Benefits & conditions

  • An autonomous and diversified position in a team with international experience.
  • Working in a young, dynamic company that stands for innovation and meaningful projects with social relevance.
  • A multiple award-winning digital social innovation.
  • Flat hierarchies, fast decision-making processes, an open corporate culture, a strong feedback culture, and responsible work.
  • Support from a highly qualified and intrinsically motivated team.
  • Friendly, humorous, professional, and respectful collaboration.
  • A mix of office and home office is possible.
  • A workplace directly at the attractive Erste Campus, easily accessible by public transport.
  • Health Centre: the Erste Campus operates a fully equipped health centre that provides employees with a high standard of medical services during working hours.
  • Employee benefits: enjoy special conditions on financial services and insurance, supermarkets, clothing stores, and much more.
