Job description
Within our Digital-IT department, you will join the Engineering Data team as Senior AWS Data Engineer: a diverse group of talented engineers from multiple nationalities, united by openness, collaboration, innovation, and the ambition to build technology that truly improves the lives of millions of customers.
This role sits at the center of Odido's AI strategy and adoption. It is a strategic, hands-on engineering position operating at the crossroads of cloud infrastructure, software engineering, data platforms, and AI enablement. You will help shape how Odido evolves from traditional platform and integration engineering toward AI-native development across the enterprise.
Here, you won't just build scalable cloud solutions, you will help create the engineering foundations that enable hyper-personalized customer experiences, intelligent automation, and future AI-driven business capabilities. From secure and scalable AWS architectures to experimentation with emerging technologies and AI initiatives, your work will directly influence how we innovate as a company.
You'll collaborate closely with product teams on core deliverables while also helping elevate engineering standards, platform maturity, and long-term architectural direction. Whether you are enabling secure AI workloads, optimizing cloud-native platforms, or partnering with engineers and data scientists on experimental initiatives, your impact will be visible across the organization.
We believe in growth without limits. You'll have access to Udemy courses, mentorship from experienced leads and principal engineers, and opportunities to experiment with new tools, technologies, and ideas. And when we're not engineering solutions, we're connecting, from team outings and social events to our annual IT beach gathering.
Please note:
You must already live in the Netherlands (work permit required), preferably within ~30 km of The Hague, and you'll work at least 3 days per week from our Den Haag office.
The Role
This is not a traditional DevOps or infrastructure engineering role. This is a high-impact senior engineering position focused on enabling AI readiness and building future-proof engineering capabilities across Odido.
You'll initially join one of our flagship product domains focused on marketing and campaign management, delivering the right product to the right customer through AI-driven, hyper-personalized customer journeys. At the same time, you'll contribute to wider engineering initiatives that support Odido's long-term AI and cloud strategy.
This role requires a combination of deep AWS engineering expertise, strong architectural thinking, and the ability to collaborate confidently across both technical and business domains. You will work closely with principal engineers, managers, data engineers, and stakeholders across the organization to help shape the future direction of our engineering landscape.
You will:
- Take full technical ownership of cloud-native platforms and data pipelines, ensuring they are secure, scalable, maintainable, and future-ready.
- Design and deliver high-quality software solutions using modern engineering frameworks, tooling, and AWS-native technologies.
- Help shape the engineering foundations required for AI-native development and enterprise AI adoption.
- Collaborate with product leads and engineering stakeholders on scalable architectural solutions supporting platform growth and innovation.
- Work closely with stakeholders across business, cloud & infrastructure, data science, and engineering teams on security, FinOps, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Contribute to experimental initiatives, proof-of-concepts, and emerging AI-related engineering opportunities.
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and promoting strong software engineering standards.
- Influence broader organizational initiatives around AI integration, cloud engineering strategy, observability, and platform maturity.
- Stay informed about emerging industry trends and actively contribute to Odido's engineering culture and technical communities., Your growth path at Odido isn't fixed in advance, you can go in any direction, horizontally too. I get the chance to gain new knowledge across different finance domains and keep collecting new experiences. Here you truly chart your own route.
Requirements
Some things you cannot learn at university, but you possess them by nature. Your core personality is collaborative, curious, quality-driven, communicative, and open-minded. You embrace complexity, take ownership naturally, and enjoy operating in environments where technology, innovation, and business impact come together.
You know how to balance engineering quality with pragmatism. You are comfortable challenging ideas constructively, influencing stakeholders, and translating technical possibilities into scalable solutions that others can actually build upon.
In your short motivation letter, we'd love to hear why this role speaks to you. Tell us about your skills, education, and passion for cloud-native engineering, AI enablement, and AWS innovation. As said, we read every application, personally.
Must have's:
- 4-5+ years of hands-on AWS experience within production-grade cloud environments, including designing scalable cloud-native architectures using technologies such as ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Kubernetes and container platforms.
- Strong Python software engineering skills, including frameworks such as FastAPI and Pydantic, with experience managing asynchronous processing, queue workers, and batch workloads.
- Solid Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD experience using Terraform, GitHub Actions, and modern automation practices.
- Strong understanding of AWS security best practices and secure engineering principles, including IAM, VPC architecture, encryption, compliance, data retention, and secure coding standards.
- Experience building scalable, maintainable, and performance-oriented software solutions with strong engineering quality standards, including code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
- Excellent stakeholder communication and presentation skills, with the ability to operate confidently across engineering, infrastructure, product, business, and data-focused teams.
- Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus), and already living in the Netherlands.
Nice-to-have's:
- Experience with AI/GenAI enablement or engineering environments supporting ML workloads.
- Experience with real-time data processing technologies such as AWS Kinesis or Kafka.
- Familiarity with observability tooling such as Elastic Stack or Datadog.
- Exposure to FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization strategies.
- Experience with data engineering and ML tooling such as pandas, polars, PySpark, MLFlow, or LightGBM.
- Familiarity with experimental engineering initiatives, proof-of-concepts, or innovation-driven environments.
- Full-stack development experience using Django or related frameworks.
Even though we have many different colleagues, we look for a few typical Odido traits in every new team member. You need to be able to handle a changing organisation. The world of communications changes every day, and we need to grow along with it. Being naturally curious and interested in the technology we work with and the industry we're in helps enormously.
