Job description

NuVolt is seeking a technically capable Renewable Energy Design Engineer to support the delivery of high-quality energy solutions across our commercial and industrial projects. This role is focused on the design, optimisation, and technical development of renewable systems including solar PV, battery storage, and low-carbon technologies.

You will be responsible for producing compliant, efficient, and commercially viable system designs, supporting project delivery teams, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our engineering capability.

Key aims and objectives

· Deliver accurate, compliant, and optimised renewable energy system designs

· Support the successful technical delivery of projects from concept through to installation

· Ensure all designs meet relevant UK regulations and industry standards

· Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and technical standards

· Support business growth through technical input and innovation

· Represent the company professionally in all technical interactions

Prime responsibilities and duties

· Design renewable energy systems including solar PV, battery storage, and associated technologies

· Produce technical drawings, layouts, and schematics using design software (e.g. AutoCAD)

· Carry out system sizing, performance calculations, and energy yield assessments

· Ensure compliance with UK standards and regulations (e.g. MCS, G98/G99, Building Regulations)

· Prepare technical documentation, reports, and specifications

· Support project teams during installation and commissioning phases

· Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and clients to ensure effective delivery

· Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies where required

· Identify opportunities to improve system performance and cost efficiency

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of renewable technologies and regulatory changes

Requirements

Do you have experience in System design?, Essential:

· GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

· Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience

· Electrical Design / PV design / Electrical Level 3

Desirable:

· Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy or related field)

· Relevant industry certifications (e.g. MCS, renewable technologies)

· Ongoing professional development in renewable energy or engineering disciplines

Experience

Essential:

· Experience in designing renewable energy systems (e.g. solar PV, battery storage, or similar)

· Experience using design software such as AutoCAD or equivalent

· Strong technical and analytical capability

· Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and calculations

· Understanding of UK regulations and standards

Desirable:

· Experience within commercial or industrial energy projects

· Familiarity with software such as PV SOL, Trimble, or similar

· Knowledge of grid connection processes (G98/G99)

· Experience working alongside installation or delivery teams
