This is an opportunity for Somerset Council colleagues to move into a practical, office-based role that supports the delivery of services used by communities across the county. As part of the Digital Mailroom team, you will play an important role in ensuring information and correspondence is handled accurately and reaches the right teams, supporting the effective day-to-day operation of council services.
This role would suit someone who enjoys structured, hands-on work, values accuracy and organisation, and takes pride in contributing to a reliable behind-the-scenes service. Role Summary
Working as part of the Digital Mailroom team, you will support the delivery of an efficient and reliable mailroom service for Somerset Council. The role involves managing incoming and outgoing mail, including opening, sorting, scanning, despatch and hybrid mail processes, ensuring information is handled accurately and distributed to the appropriate service areas in a timely manner.
What you'll do - Key Responsibilities
- Manage incoming post, including opening, sorting and scanning where required
- Sort and despatch outgoing mail, including parcels
- Ensure outgoing mail is despatched via the hybrid mail provider wherever possible
- Organise courier services in line with Somerset Council processes
- Operate and maintain mailroom machinery in accordance with procedures
- Manage group email inboxes
- Maintain accurate records and undertake regular stock checks
- Adhere to health and safety and data protection requirements
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and service areas across the Council
Requirements
- Relevant work experience and good standard of education, including excellent literacy and numeracy skills
- Basic administrative skills
Knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes including Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Understand the principles of data protection (GDPR)

- Hours Part-time: Mon, Thurs and Fri (22.5 hours per week)
