Job description

TEKsystems is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to own and evolve mission-critical platforms supporting our Operational Insights & Visualization - Edge Product Team. This role sits at the intersection of enterprise IT, cloud, and edge technologies, with direct impact on operational reliability, data visibility, and long-term platform scalability across Refining. Under general direction, this engineer will provide Senior-level technical leadership across system design, implementation, and lifecycle management while partnering closely with architecture, product, and operations teams to ensure technology solutions align with business outcomes., Own the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of highly available, secure, and resilient IT platforms supporting operational and edge workloads. Lead infrastructure architecture across on-premises and Azure hybrid environments, including Linux and Windows servers, virtualization platforms, storage, and containerized workloads. Design and govern backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies, validating RPO/RTO requirements and ensuring platforms meet business continuity expectations. Define and implement observability standards, including monitoring, alerting, and logging, to support proactive operations and service reliability. Partner with product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into scalable technical solutions. Drive automation and standardization using scripting and infrastructure-as-code to improve reliability, reduce manual effort, and accelerate delivery. Provide Senior technical leadership, mentoring engineers, influencing platform standards, and owning outcomes across multiple systems and environments. Ensure cybersecurity principles are embedded in platform designs, including identity, access control, segmentation, and Zero Trust practices.

Requirements

Proven experience in systems engineering or Senior systems administration supporting mission-critical environments. Strong knowledge of server infrastructure (Linux, Windows Server), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix), and enterprise storage. Hands-on experience with backup and recovery technologies and disaster recovery planning and execution. Experience working in Azure cloud environments, including hybrid architectures. Familiarity with containers and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with monitoring and observability tools supporting enterprise SLAs/SLOs. Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Terraform or similar). Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This is a Contract position based out of San Antonio, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52.00 - $75.00/hr.
