Job description

We are seeking a Cyber Systems Administrator to support the 705th CTS Distributed Mission Operations Center Infrastructure Development and Engineering (DMOC-IDE) team at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Cyber System Administrator (Vulnerability Analyst) supports the Distributed Mission Operations Center (DMOC) Battlespace by operating and maintaining mission-critical systems that power Live-Virtual-Constructive training for Air Force, Joint, and Coalition warfighters. In addition to traditional system administration duties, this role includes ensuring all DMOC systems meet DoD cybersecurity requirements for configuration compliance, STIG hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation, and cyber-readiness.

An Active secret security clearance is required prior to starting.

You will work closely with network, software, cybersecurity, and simulation system teams to maintain a secure, resilient, high-fidelity training environment for the warfighter.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain reliable operation of Windows and Linux systems in a hybrid classified environment.

  • Coordinate with network admins, engineers, and end users to ensure smooth system performance.

  • Install, configure, and maintain server/workstation hardware, peripherals, and VTC equipment.

  • Administer Active Directory accounts, groups, policies, file permissions, and security access lists.

  • Support technical activities according to mission schedules.

  • Handle hardware moves and installations (up to 50 lbs).

  • Perform routine ACAS/Nessus scans, validate findings, reduce false positives, and track remediation progress

  • Review and apply DISA STIGs/SRGs, update baselines, and coordinate hardening changes with the cybersecurity team.

  • Support patch management, ensuring OS/applications are properly updated and compliant; validate patch status and document deviations.

  • Participate in monthly POA&M reviews, providing input on vulnerability timelines, risk justifications, and fix-action feasibility.

  • Provide timely feedback to the Cybersecurity team on vulnerabilities, patching issues, impediments, system outages, or conflicts with mission operations.

  • Assist in maintaining data integrity by monitoring system configuration, change control, and compliance posture.

  • Recommend, test, and deploy system enhancements that improve security, performance, and reliability.

  • Test new product releases, patches, or updates for compatibility and minimal user disruption prior to deployment

  • Monitor, control, and troubleshoot DMOC data communications networks.

  • Record issues, open trouble tickets, support system problem reports, and assist with LAN/WAN testing.

  • Configure and support VTC connections among local and remote network participants.

  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity, hardware, and system performance issues.

  • Ensure strict adherence to DoD and DMOC Information Systems Security policies.

  • Work closely with DMOC Cybersecurity personnel to align system maintenance with cyber-hardening requirements.

  • Communicate clearly with internal teams, leadership, and external customers-providing updates, documentation, and incident reports.

  • Translate technical findings into repair actions, risk statements, and user-friendly instructions as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a bachelors degree, an associates degree and 4 years of experience, or a HS Diploma/GED and 6 years of experience will be considered.
  • An Active secret security clearance is required prior to starting.
  • Experience as a System Administrator supporting Windows/Linux systems in an enterprise or DoW environment.
  • Working knowledge of ACAS/Nessus scanning, patching workflows, and STIG application.
  • Familiarity with system security practices, configuration management, and network fundamentals.
  • Ability to document technical processes, troubleshooting results, and system configurations.
  • Ability to lift/move hardware up to 50 lbs.
  • Relevant certifications (Security+ or equivelent).

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience in DoD training, simulation, or Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) environments.
  • Understanding of RMF, POA&M processes, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and system hardening.
  • Automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible).
  • Background working in hybrid classified environments.
