Job description
rockITdata is seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining healthcare data interfaces and interoperability solutions. This role functions as both an architect and interface engineer, supporting the secure exchange of health data across complex systems.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience with healthcare interoperability frameworks, HL7 FHIR standards, and health data integration patterns. This individual will actively monitor interfaces, troubleshoot production data flows, design scalable architectures, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure reliable, compliant, and high-performing data exchange solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design and architect healthcare data integration and interoperability solutions.
- Develop, configure, and maintain secure interfaces between healthcare systems.
- Implement and support HL7 v2, HL7 FHIR, and other interoperability standards.
- Monitor interface performance, manage alerts, and resolve data transmission issues in real time.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory and security standards (HIPAA, HITECH, CMS guidelines as applicable).
- Develop and document data architecture diagrams, data flow maps, and interface specifications.
- Perform root cause analysis and support production troubleshooting.
- Develop reporting dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI.
- Support low-code workflow automation solutions using Power Apps (as applicable).
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or related field (Experience may be substituted for education).

5+ years of experience in data architecture, interface engineering, or healthcare systems integration.

Experience building dashboards using Power BI.

Hands-on experience implementing and supporting HL7 v2 and HL7 FHIR.

Experience with healthcare interoperability frameworks and health information exchange (HIE) architectures.

Experience moving clinical and/or claims data between disparate healthcare systems.

Experience monitoring and supporting production interfaces.

Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and secure data transmission standards.

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Ability to obtain a Public Trust. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AWS cloud services (RDS, Aurora, Redshift, Lambda, S3).

Experience developing applications or automation solutions using Power Apps.

Experience with ETL tools and data pipeline design.

Experience supporting CMS, VA, DoD, or other federal healthcare agencies.

Oracle Cerner experience is a plus.
