Job description

PEMCO has an opportunity for a Senior Data and AI Scientist to join our community. This position is focused on leveraging Generative AI (Gen AI), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Vector Databases, and Knowledge Graphs to develop and deploy AI models across the insurance value chain.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop and deploy AI models across the insurance value chain, leveraging both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines for AI-driven decision support.
  • Utilize Vector Databases and Knowledge Graphs to enhance AI applications in underwriting, claims processing, and customer engagement.
  • Develop data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and storage to support AI/ML workloads.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions using cloud-based AI platforms such as Azure Machine Learning, Databricks.
  • Implement MLOps best practices, including CI/CD for model training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Develop generative AI models for personalized customer experiences and automation of complex decision-making processes.
  • Apply natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze and extract insights from unstructured data sources.
  • Optimize AI models for performance, scalability, and reliability in enterprise environments.
  • Conduct architecture design reviews and performance tuning for AI/ML applications
  • Work cross-functionally with business and technology teams to identify AI-driven opportunities and define strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical AI principles, model governance, and data privacy regulations.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience in a related field, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Data Engineering. Master's or Ph.D. in a related field, such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Machine Learning preferred.
  • 5+ years of enterprise-scale experience in designing, implementing, and deploying AI/ML models.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud-based AI platforms, including Azure Machine Learning, Databricks, and Snowflake.
  • 5+ years of experience in implementing both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques in real-world applications.
  • Experience in the insurance industry, particularly in Auto, Home, and Umbrella insurance processes, underwriting, claims analysis, and risk assessment is required.
  • Experience working with advanced AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Hugging Face transformers is preferred.
  • Job Specific: Hands-on experience with Gen AI, RAG pipelines, Vector Databases, and Knowledge Graphs.
  • Job specific: Strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of statistical and mathematical principles.
  • Job specific: Strong experience in natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI applications.
  • Job specific: Expertise in MLOps, model lifecycle management, and AI model deployment at scale.

  • Familiarity with agile software delivery methodologies such as Scrum.

Applicants must be a resident and work from one of the following states: WA, OR, ID, TX, OH, FL, SC, NC, AZ and IL, with occasional travel to our headquarters, located in Seattle, WA., The pay range for this role is shown below. Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual's qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

  • Greater Seattle area target pay range: $ 154,845 - $189,255. The full pay range is $129,038- $215,063

  • Outside Greater Seattle area target pay range: $136,654 -$167,022. The full pay range is $ 113,838 -$189,797. Greater Seattle Area is defined as working within approximately 100 miles of Seattle. Outside Greater Seattle is defined as working approximately 100 miles or more from Seattle. Benefits:
