We are seeking a highly driven and solutions-oriented Director of Operational Technology to lead the strategy, implementation, integration, and optimization of technology across our ready-mix concrete, aggregates, transportation, and construction materials operations.
This role serves as the bridge between operations, leadership, software vendors, automation systems, and field personnel. The ideal candidate understands both technology and heavy operations and can drive efficiency, visibility, accountability, and automation throughout the company.
This is not an "IT help desk" position. This is a leadership role focused on operational improvement, systems integration, automation, data visibility, process efficiency, and technology-driven execution across the organization., Operational Technology Leadership
Lead the company's operational technology strategy across all divisions.
Evaluate, implement, and optimize operational software platforms and technology systems.
Serve as the primary liaison between company leadership, operations teams, and software vendors.
Develop long-term technology roadmaps aligned with company growth objectives.
Systems & Software Management
Own and manage all operational software ecosystems including:
o Dispatch systems
o Batch systems
o Fleet tracking
o Telematics
o GPS and camera systems
o Maintenance software
o ERP/accounting integrations
o Production reporting systems
o Inventory and ticketing systems
Ensure all systems communicate effectively and data flows accurately between platforms.
Identify redundancies and opportunities for consolidation or automation.
Automation & Process Improvement
Identify manual processes that can be automated or streamlined.
Lead implementation of AI tools, automation workflows, dashboards, reporting systems, and operational analytics.
Improve operational visibility through real-time reporting and KPI tracking.
Build workflows that increase accountability, reduce downtime, and improve decision-making.
Operations Support
Work directly with operations managers, dispatchers, mechanics, plant managers, and leadership teams.
Troubleshoot operational inefficiencies tied to technology or process failures.
Assist in rollout and training of new systems and operational procedures.
Standardize processes across all locations and divisions.
Vendor & Project Management
Manage relationships with software providers, consultants, and technology contractors.
Lead technology implementation projects from planning through deployment.
Coordinate timelines, budgets, testing, training, and adoption efforts.
Negotiate vendor agreements and evaluate ROI on technology investments.
Data & Reporting
Develop executive-level operational dashboards and reporting systems.
Improve visibility into:
o Production
o Fleet utilization
o Downtime
o Fuel usage
o Driver performance
o Equipment health
o Plant efficiency
o Maintenance metrics
o Inventory tracking
Ensure data accuracy and consistency across platforms.
Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Oversight
Coordinate with IT providers to maintain secure and reliable systems infrastructure.
Help develop operational continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Ensure operational technology systems remain secure, updated, and scalable.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Vendor relationship management?, Required
5+ years of experience in operational technology, systems management, industrial technology,
construction materials, logistics, manufacturing, or related industries. Strong understanding of operational workflows in industrial or heavy equipment environments.
Experience managing software vendors and technology implementations.
Strong project management and leadership skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with both executives and field personnel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
Experience in:
o Ready-mix concrete
o Aggregates
o Construction materials
o Transportation or logistics
o Industrial operations
Familiarity with:
o ERP systems
o Telematics
o Fleet management systems
o AI tools and workflow automation
o SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or reporting platforms
o Batch systems and dispatch software
