Job description

The Oracle to PostgreSQL Migration Architect will lead the strategy, design, and execution of enterprise database migration initiatives from Oracle to PostgreSQL environments. This role requires deep expertise in Oracle administration, PostgreSQL architecture, cloud-native database solutions, and strong Python coding skills for automation and microservices development. The ideal candidate will drive schema conversion, performance optimization, and migration execution while ensuring scalability, reliability, and minimal downtime., * Assess existing Oracle database environments and define migration roadmaps

  • Perform application dependency analysis and TCO evaluations
  • Design scalable and secure PostgreSQL schema architectures
  • Convert Oracle PL/SQL procedures, triggers, packages, and views into PL/pgSQL
  • Execute database migrations using tools such as AWS SCT, AWS DMS, Ora2Pg, or pgloader
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal downtime during migrations
  • Optimize PostgreSQL database performance including indexing and query tuning
  • Troubleshoot migration-related issues including replication and data type mismatches
  • Develop Python-based automation scripts and database microservices
  • Support cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments on AWS RDS/Aurora or Azure
  • Implement database security and governance best practices
  • Collaborate with business, infrastructure, and application teams throughout migration lifecycle
  • Create technical documentation, migration procedures, and operational runbooks

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Oracle Database Administration
  • 3+ years of hands-on Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration experience
  • Strong expertise in Oracle PL/SQL and SQL performance tuning
  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals and PL/pgSQL
  • Experience with migration tools including AWS SCT, AWS DMS, Ora2Pg, or pgloader
  • Strong Python coding experience with automation and microservices development
  • Experience with Bash or Perl scripting
  • Knowledge of AWS (RDS/Aurora) or Azure cloud platforms
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience implementing database security best practices
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, * Experience with cloud-native database modernization initiatives
  • Familiarity with containerized or distributed microservices environments
  • Experience handling enterprise-scale migration projects with minimal downtime
