Job description
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, and expansion of the Multi Business Engineering (MBE) R&D product labs in Santa Clara. This is a highly technical, hybrid role requiring a 90% Linux Systems Administration background blended with heavy hands-on data center infrastructure management., * Systems & Network Administration (~50%): Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot highly available infrastructure. Manage Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu/CentOS) and basic Windows environments via CLI. Diagnose networking issues involving TCP/IP, VLAN tagging, routing, and network switch configurations.
- Physical Lab Operations (~50%): Perform hands-on data center maintenance, including unboxing, rack-mounting servers/hardware, cable patching, and decommissioning end-of-life equipment. Maintain general housekeeping and organization of the lab space.
- Hardware & Power Infrastructure: Test physical hardware boards and server components. Troubleshoot local smart Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and network switch hardware.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Manage the hardware lifecycle and logistics. Receive shipments and accurately log physical assets into inventory tracking software (GLPI).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work independently with minimal local supervision while remaining flexible to collaborate with remote engineering teams in India to debug lab-related issues.
Requirements
Candidates must be fully comfortable splitting their time between advanced command-line troubleshooting and physical lab labor., * Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, Infrastructure Support Engineer, or Data Center Technician.
- Strong, verifiable hands-on experience rack-mounting enterprise hardware and managing PDUs/switches.
- Strong baseline knowledge of networking fundamentals (VLANs, TCP/IP, switching).
- Experience using enterprise asset management tools (GLPI, NetBox, ServiceNow, or similar).
- Ability to lift, move, and install server hardware and perform repetitive physical tasks independently.
