System Engineer - Serbia (Remote)

About the role: You join an existing team responsible for operating and continuously improving a large-scale, business-critical application server landscape (~50 × 4 instances) based on JBoss, Apache and Tomcat. The focus of this role is exclusively on the application server layer-provisioning, patching and lifecycle management of the underlying VMs and operating system is not part of this role and is handled by a dedicated Linux team, with whom you collaborate closely at the defined interface.

Your Tasks:

• Operate, configure and further develop the ~50 × 4 application server instances (JBoss, Apache, Tomcat)-VM and OS operations are not part of this role
• Manage deployments, connectors, datasources, clustering, load balancing and SSL certificates
• Analyze incidents and provide 2nd / 3rd level support-including log analysis, heap dumps and stack traces
• Read and interpret Java code to diagnose environment-related issues in collaboration with the Java Developer
• Coordinate with the Linux team on maintenance windows, VM sizing and cross-layer troubleshooting
• Drive automation and scripting to optimize application server operations

• Several years of experience as a System Engineer with a clear focus on application servers (JBoss / WildFly, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat)
• Deep understanding of middleware configuration, logging, performance, security and clustering
• Solid Linux skills and scripting experience (Bash, Python, Ansible) for automation at the application server level-VM and OS administration are not required
• Basic Java skills-able to read and follow code without being a developer
• Experience with monitoring tools, logging stacks and performance analysis
• Business fluency in English

Nice to have

• Familiarity with enterprise security concepts (WAF, IAM, LDAP, SAML)
• Experience with firewall rules and network architectures
• Azure / Cloud Platforms
• German is an advantage
