Job description

The School of Engineering & Technology (SET) has an outstanding opportunity for an IT Manager to join their team., The SET IT Manager provides advanced technical management and administration of computing labs and network infrastructure supporting academic instruction and faculty research within SET. This position performs work that requires independent judgment, advanced technical expertise, and coordination across academic units and central IT organizations., Technical Scope & Operational Responsibility (70%):

  • Administers multiplatform computing environments supporting diverse engineering and technology curricula.

  • Manages Windows Server and Linux systems, networked lab environments, virtualization, and supporting infrastructure.

  • Evaluates, selects, and implements hardware and software solutions to meet evolving academic and research needs.

  • Plans and manages system capacity, performance, security, reliability, and availability within institutional, budgetary, and policy constraints.

  • Develops and enforces policies and standards for the use of computing facilities and resources.

  • Procures, inventories, tracks, and allocates computing and networking assets.

Coordination & Collaboration (30%):

  • Exercises independent judgment in system design, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting.

  • Prioritizes workloads and resolves complex technical issues with minimal supervision.

  • Makes recommendations impacting instructional delivery, research capability, and operational continuity.

  • Coordinates system deployments with faculty, campus IT, and safety stakeholders.

  • Serves as a liaison between the school and central university IT organizations.

  • Consults with faculty on research computing needs, including servers, virtual machines, and cloud services.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible technical experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux system administration.

  • Experience with scripting and object-oriented programming.

  • Experience with tools and concepts for automating deployment of virtual machines and associated infrastructure.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, AZURE, GCP)

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible technical experience.

  • Advanced Windows Server (Active Directory) and Linux administration experience. (Rocky, RedHat, Alma and Ubuntu Linux distributions all industry standard platforms)

  • Experience with enterprise hypervisors (Windows Hyper-V, XCP Ng, Containers).

  • Experience with networking, system imaging, virtualization, and database systems.

  • Knowledge of applications, servers and security/privacy practices.

  • Strong technical documentation skills.

  • Experience providing technical leadership or supervision.

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours as required.

  • Multiple laboratories with exposure to fabrication and other shop machinery including, but not limited to: Concrete testing, thermal and fluid dynamics testing equipment, 3D Printers, Lathes, Mills, CNC Routers, etc.

Pay Range Minimum:

$86,376.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$109,248.00 annual
