Job description
We are hiring a hands-on, SQL-focused developer and analyst to build reliable data solutions. This contract position involves writing and optimizing SQL, building repeatable data validation checks, and delivering clean, trusted datasets to support reporting and visualization. The role is centered on a project to build powerplant dashboards and may extend or convert to a permanent position., * Develop and maintain SQL queries, views, and datasets for reporting and operational use.
- Write and optimize SQL, including multi-table joins, aggregations, and window functions.
- Build repeatable data quality checks for issues like duplicates, missing keys, or invalid values, and document remediation.
- Support database updates and controlled data fixes with traceability and validation.
- Create reporting outputs and lightweight visualizations using tools like Power BI or Excel.
- Collaborate with users to translate business needs into clear data logic and requirements.
- Maintain documentation for data definitions, mappings, and audit results.
- Contribute to improvements in data governance and consistent metric definitions.
Requirements
Education: A degree in Computer Science is required.
Experience: Two years of relevant experience, or one year with a Master's degree. Demonstrated experience in debugging data issues and building data reconciliations is necessary.
Technical Skills:
- Strong SQL experience (PostgreSQL preferred; proficiency in SQL Server or Oracle is acceptable).
- Understanding of relational database fundamentals (keys, constraints, data integrity).
- Proficiency with BI and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Grafana.
- Working knowledge of Excel for data validation and reporting (e.g., pivot tables, lookups).
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) or other scripting languages like Python.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud data concepts (e.g., RDS, S3, Glue).
- Experience in an engineering or asset-heavy industrial environment.
- Knowledge of tools such as AVEVA PI, IBM Maximo, Databricks, or MongoDB.
- Basic query performance tuning experience.
