Job description
The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) is seeking a Network and Infrastructure Engineer responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of school-level network and related IT infrastructure in support of teaching, research, and administrative activities. This role provides critical oversight and technical expertise for campuswide networked AV infrastructure and design of faculty lab networks. This role participates fully in building and configuring network and infrastructure components; maintaining and troubleshooting complex issues; and monitoring critical systems to identify, analyze, and address performance and security problems and security events. The position focuses on implementing secure infrastructure solutions, performing and contributing to risk and vulnerability assessments, and driving remediation efforts to protect systems and data. The incumbent serves as a trusted advisor to school administrative and research stakeholders, consulting on and implementing infrastructure best practices ensuring alignment with Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and information security requirements
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
- Participate fully in the build, configuration and documentation of IT infrastructure. Provide specialized stewardship on campus AV networking and faculty lab network architecture.
- Maintain and support IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standards and service level objectives. This includes server room operations such as provisioning of rack space, installing server equipment, and coordinating network setup for faculty servers.
- Analyze and report on performance metrics.
- Oversee SEAS use of infrastructure monitoring and management platforms including those for the SEAS AV environment (e.g., Crestron XiO and Dante Domain Manager) and university tools (e.g., LogicMonitor).
- Implement and support robust and secure IT solutions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats and trends within Information Security.
- Operates with a security mindset and partners with the School Information Security Officer to evaluate and mitigate risks of software and software as a service (SaaS), and AV tools. May perform or contribute to risk assessments.
- Review or perform procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access, modification, disruption or destruction.
- Act as a trusted advisor to members of the SEAS community.
- Draw on relationship and technical skills to consult with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration with SEAS AV Services and Facilities, HUIT, other Harvard units, and vendors. Along with these partners, ensures the design of Network IT and AV solutions meet the needs of the SEAS community.

Requirements
The individual in this role may be in work situations where the ability to carry up to 20 pounds unassisted and to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance is needed. Standing and sitting for considerable lengths of time might also be required., * Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience, * Knowledge of configuration, maintenance and support of IT infrastructure systems within a higher education environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams while managing multiple, often competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to use discretion and judgment in evaluating problems, communicating, recommending alternatives and solutions, and escalating issues via established support channels.
- Experience with device and network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Demonstrated proficiency in networking concepts (e.g., routing, firewalls, DNS/DHCP, VPN).
- Familiarity with information security principles and concepts, relevant tools and standards.
- Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams.
- Commitment to operational excellence, service reliability, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Completion of Harvard IT Academy foundational course (or external equivalent) preferred
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or similar preferred
