Job description

A utility client in Houston has a need for a LogicMonitor-focused Network Monitoring Specialist to support the configuration, implementation, and ongoing tuning of the LogicMonitor platform. This role will help ensure accurate monitoring, alerting, and escalation for activity associated with Smart Grid, telecommunications MPLS, corporate network infrastructure, and dedicated circuits. This person will be monitoring logic, alert accuracy, alert translation, and escalation workflow within LogicMonitor. They will also be responsible for reviewing and analyzing alerts to determine severity and escalation needs (e.g., validating whether an alert is Minor vs. Critical) and translate technical alert data into plain-English alarm descriptions to improve clarity and response alignment. This role will build and maintain alert rules and device-specific monitoring standards (e.g., rules for device types such as TVs or other asset classes). This person will Perform MIB translations: convert OID/MIB-based alert messages into recognizable, actionable language, and supporting monitoring tied to SNMP/MIB polling and help determine which items warrant escalation. They will conduct "alert matching" to ensure alerts visible in existing monitoring tools (ex: OpenText Network Node Manager) are also accurately visible and aligned in LogicMonitor. This person will support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of monitoring logic by triggering alarms/alerts in the field and confirming correct messaging/behavior in the ticketing system.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with network management level 2 or 3 (NOC/Network Operations backgeound)
  • Strong background in network monitoring (LogicMonitor experience strongly preferred)
  • Solid networking fundamentals across: MPLS / telecom networks, corporate network monitoring, and circuit/transport monitoring concepts
  • Ability to interpret alert logic and determine what should be escalated vs. what should be informational/noise
  • Hands-on experience creating/tuning: Alert thresholds, escalation policies, and device/service-specific monitoring templates
  • Experience translating SNMP OIDs / MIB messages into human-readable text.
  • Familiarity working alongside enterprise monitoring systems (e.g., OpenText Network Node Manager) and ensuring parity across tools. CCNA Certification
