Job description
As a Lead Cloud Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting, operating, and optimizing AWS-based cloud infrastructure that underpins DISH's cloud-native 5G network. This role blends hands-on technical troubleshooting with operational excellence, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across AWS environments. Beyond technical orchestration, you will drive cloud security, governance, and cost optimization initiatives while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers. You will collaborate with DevOps teams to secure CI/CD pipelines, lead major incident responses, and foster a culture of operational excellence to support DISH's large-scale, high-performance AWS environment., * Serve as the subject matter expert for AWS and Kubernetes (EKS), guiding the team through complex technical challenges and architectural decisions
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards using Terraform or CloudFormation to ensure modularity and reusability across the enterprise
- Oversee the lifecycle of large-scale Kubernetes clusters, including performance tuning, ingress controller configurations, and complex networking troubleshooting
- Lead the adoption of SRE principles, defining SLIs/SLOs and error budgets to ensure the 5G core network meets strict availability requirements
- Act as the primary escalation point for major production incidents, leading the technical response and driving the post-incident review process
- Architect and build advanced automation frameworks in Python or Go to eliminate manual toil and improve system self-healing capabilities
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to design secure GitLab CI/CD pipelines, integrating automated security scanning and deployment strategies
- Drive cloud hardening initiatives, implementing Zero-Trust principles, automated IAM policy audits, and vulnerability remediation at scale
- Provide technical coaching and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, conducting code reviews and fostering a culture of continuous learning

Requirements
Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session., * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering and operations, with a proven track record in a senior or lead capacity, * Deep technical mastery of AWS services including EC2, VPC, EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, and Transit Gateway
- Extensive experience managing production-grade Kubernetes environments, including networking (CNI), service mesh, and persistent storage
- Advanced Linux system administration skills, including kernel tuning, performance monitoring, and security hardening
- Expert-level scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go for building production-ready tools
- Comprehensive understanding of networking protocols (BGP, OSPF), load balancing (L7/L4), and cloud security architectures
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage stakeholder expectations
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
- Previous experience in Telecommunications, Wireless 5G Core, or high-scale SaaS environments
- Strong experience with advanced Terraform features such as Modules and Policy-as-Code
- Expertise in building complex observability stacks using Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK for distributed systems
- Familiarity with ITIL, SRE, or Lean Systems Engineering principles
