Job Location Raleigh, North Carolina Department Office of Information Technology-Research Services About the Department Research Services coordinates a wide range of activities and provides training, consulting, web and application development and information services to enhance the use of research computing at NC State. This unit acts as a liaison to foster engagement and open communications between OIT and the NC State research community it serves. Essential Job Duties General Scope of Duties The primary purpose of this position is to develop and maintain Office of Information Technology's research and campus web applications and associated database and web infrastructure, including Google Cloud Platform and ServiceNow. Applications include the Research Computing app, Standing Committees, Research Computing and HPC websites, NCSU Mobile website, Firebase messaging, various middleware APIs, and other web applications as needed. The position also provides metrics for all projects by compiling, testing, providing feedback, and managing statistics from Google Analytics and Splunk. Web Application Development Work with numerous units in OIT to determine the need for, plan, and implement PHP web applications to improve service and increase productivity on campus. Some data involved with these applications will be sensitive, so the employee must take security and privacy into account. Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing tools as well as new tools being created. Consult with end users to ensure features continue to meet originally designed needs, and be responsible for analyzing requirements and transitioning to updated solutions. Create, maintain, and document web and mobile applications and web APIs. Research, test, and implement modern web frameworks to enhance the OIT framework. Much of this documentation will be for projects created individually or as part of a project team; however, there may be times when documentation is needed for projects the employee did not originally develop. App Support, Documentation & Research Provide upper-level support for other OIT employees as well as the campus community, both informally and through the OIT Help Desk. Work with research developers to train in new technologies and foster success in the deployment of modernized PHP web applications. Document internal applications in playbooks, on OIT websites, and in the Help Desk knowledge base as needed. Research, prototype, and build new technologies as needed in web, mobile, and web API development. Outreach, Consulting & Planning Provide leadership and planning for campus programming in the research community. Consult with the campus community for web applications, web APIs, and other programming areas as required. Participate in meetings, survey concerns, and report steering information to OIT on an ongoing basis. Work with campus researchers to encourage best practices and increase knowledge of programming. Support other OIT Research Computing initiatives as required. Other Responsibilities
- Documentation and training on applications created in this role as required.
- Support integration of SSO and SCIM technology into PHP web applications
- Support of ServiceNow integrations and campus configuration management integration and reporting as needed.
- Research and development of new technologies for improvement of unit applications.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience
- Four (4) year degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Programming, or related discipline.
Other Required Qualifications
- Object-oriented PHP programing and design patterns including common web frameworks like Laravel, JavaScript and related frameworks.
- MVC pattern, Python, HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform environment and APIs, MySQL database query, and Apache htaccess configuration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PHP web frameworks, Javascript, XML, and Go.
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow development, ServiceNow REST API, integration of mobile apps and web RESTF?UL API, and UFS file system.
- Experience in research computing environments is a plus.
