Job description
Visa's Technology Organization is a community of problem solvers and innovators reshaping the future of commerce. We operate one of the world's most advanced processing networks, supporting billions of transactions globally.
Within this ecosystem, our team is focused on reimagining Global Operations through intelligent automation. We are building a GenAI-powered, agentic automation platform designed to reduce manual, repetitive workflows and improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of operational systems.
Our team operates as a product-oriented engineering group, owning the design and delivery of backend services, full-stack applications, and AI-driven workflow orchestration. We partner closely with platform, infrastructure, and operations teams to build systems that have direct impact across Visa's internal technology landscape.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a curious and motivated early-career Software Engineer who is excited to work at the intersection of software engineering and emerging AI technologies.
In this role, you'll contribute to building modern automation platforms powered by Generative AI, gaining hands-on experience with agentic workflows, distributed systems, and full-stack development. This is an opportunity to work on real-world applications of AI within production systems, while continuing to build strong engineering fundamentals.
You'll collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, and scale systems that improve operational efficiency across Visa's global infrastructure.
The Work itself:
- Design and develop backend services and APIs using Python (FastAPI) and distributed system patterns of microservices
- Build and enhance full-stack applications, including React-based user interfaces
- Contribute to the development of GenAI-powered automation workflows, including exposure to frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph
- Help implement agentic workflows that coordinate multi-step system actions and automation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, platform, and infrastructure
- Participate in system design discussions, code reviews, and agile ceremonies
- Troubleshoot issues and improve the reliability and performance of existing systems
- Contribute to best practices in scalability, maintainability, and engineering quality
- Support production systems through a light on-call rotation focused on reliability and continuous improvement
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

- GenAI & Automation Exposure: Familiarity with Generative AI concepts through coursework, internships, or projects (e.g., LLM APIs, prompt design, RAG, or workflow-based AI tools)
- Agentic Workflow Awareness: Exposure to building or experimenting with multi-step AI workflows, automation pipelines, or agent-based systems using LangChain / Langraph (academic or project-based experience is sufficient)
- Systems Thinking: Interest in distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven micro services architectures
- Builder Mindset: Desire to build scalable, real-world systems and improve them over time
- Curiosity & Learning Agility: Eagerness to learn new technologies, especially in rapidly evolving areas like AI and automation
- Collaboration: Experience working in team-based environments (internships, school projects, or industry) and engaging in technical discussions
Nice to Have
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Familiarity with APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems (Kafka, messaging systems)
- Experience with tools such as GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, or observability platforms
- Coursework or projects related to machine learning, AI systems, or workflow automation
