Job description

PacSci EMC is seeking an Entry-Level Systems Engineer to support daily infrastructure operations and ensure high availability of core IT services. Areas of responsibility include supervising onsite and remote IT service desk workflows, performing routine network changes, monitoring and executing backups, and leading to ongoing operational improvements.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and committed to delivering excellent customer experience. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, a desire to develop technical depth, and a proactive approach toward resolving issues and enhancing system reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise day-to-day service desk operations by supervising ticket flow, coordinating onsite and remote support activities, and ensuring consistent customer service across locations.

  • Perform basic network configuration changes (e.g., switch port updates, VLAN changes, wireless adjustments) in alignment with established change-control processes.

  • Monitor, validate, and troubleshoot system and application backup/patching to ensure data integrity and availability.

  • Create and maintain system documentation, including architecture diagrams, support guides, KB articles, and operational procedures.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues, recommending solutions, and assisting in root-cause analysis.

  • Support IT operational excellence through daily systems monitoring, patching support, log review, and escalation of issues requiring senior engineering involvement.

  • Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure systems and processes remain aligned with required standards (e.g., SOX, CMMC, CUI).

  • Assist with deployment of automation, self-service tools, and process enhancements that improve efficiency and reduce support demand.

  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration with infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and operations teams to support reliable, scalable technology services.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of IT experience or equivalent hands-on technical training supporting systems, networks, or service desk operations.

  • Foundational understanding of Windows, Linux, networking fundamentals, and common IT troubleshooting principles.

  • Experience working in or supporting an IT service desk environment preferred.

  • Basic familiarity with backup systems, monitoring tools, and ITSM/ticketing platforms.

  • Strong communication, follow-through, and customer-service mindset.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with automation tools utilizing PowerShell, Power Automate, and/or Service Desk Plus preferred.
