Job description

This position will be responsible for conducting field-level digital forensics and for providing authoritative consulting on technology matters as related to criminal investigations conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and other law enforcement agencies as needed., Specific duties include:

  • Providing analysis of forensically recovered digital evidence for criminal investigations;

  • Procuring, maintaining, utilizing, and validating forensic digital imaging and forensic previewing hardware and software;

  • Keeping all equipment up to date with the latest forensic software and firmware updates;

  • Providing authoritative consulting on technology matters as related to criminal investigations conducted by FDLE and other law enforcement agencies as needed;

  • Collecting, examining, preserving, documenting and analyzing Digital Evidence in criminal investigations by the FDLE or other law enforcement agencies as needed;

  • Providing courtroom testimony related to this role as necessary;

  • Authoring investigative reports and digital evidence reports to be used in case documentation and court proceedings;

  • Assisting with the search and seizure of digital evidence on crime scenes, search warrants, and other criminal investigative activities; and

  • Conducting forensic field triage involving previewing and imaging of digital evidence stored on computer systems and other digital storage media outside of the FDLE Digital Evidence Labs., FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant's immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting. This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision. NOTES: Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position. REMINDERS:

Requirements

Do you have experience in Triage?, * Ability to testify in court regarding forensic techniques utilized, evidence management procedures, and data recovered;

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to use strong problem solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Knowledge of and aptitude for working with computer systems, managing applications, computer networks and mobile device technologies;
  • Knowledge of network security and computer intrusion techniques;
  • Knowledge of current technologies, trends, and techniques; and
  • Ability to understand and follow established policies, procedures, and industry best practices when conducting a mobile device or computer forensic examination.
