Job description
One of our top clients in the defense space is seeking an experienced and motivated Observability Engineer to drive system health and performance by building and managing observability tools across SAP and cloud platform. As an Observability Engineer, you'll be the driver behind building and optimizing their end-to-end monitoring and alerting systems across a complex enterprise IT landscape, including SAP S/4HANA and modern cloud infrastructure. Working with cross-functional matrix teams in an MVP-driven environment, you'll design dashboards, implement real-time monitoring solutions, and ensure systems stay healthy, reliable, and secure. You'll help detect issues before they impact the business and lead investigations into performance disruptions through root cause analysis and automation.
Requirements

7+ years in IT operations focused on observability, monitoring, and alerting systems

Strong grasp of observability concepts: metrics, logs, traces

Hands-on experience with tools such as Datadog (REQUIRED), Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk

Experience monitoring SAP S/4HANA and related SAP applications

Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure Gov, AWS Gov) and native monitoring tools

Ability to monitor and troubleshoot network components, firewalls, and cloud access points (VCAPs)

Proficiency in scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) to automate monitoring tasks

Strong RCA skills and experience responding to complex technical incidents

Working knowledge of ITSM frameworks (ITIL Foundation preferred)

Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in observability

Strong communication and documentation skills

Aerospace, Defense, Highly regulated environment industry experience

Bachelor's in Computer Science, IT, or related field * Experience supporting observability in large-scale enterprise or defense environments

Exposure to predictive analytics or machine learning in monitoring

Agile or MVP development environment experience

Ability to create detailed runbooks and operational documentation

Familiarity with ITIL and enterprise service management best practices
Benefits & conditions
Compensation: $60-90/HR Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401K retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
