Job description

We're seeking a cloud networking leader to shape and lead Manulife's global cloud network strategy and operations across AWS and Azure. In this role, you will lead a distributed team of network engineers and operations specialists, strengthen reliability and incident readiness, and modernize how we build and operate cloud networking through automation and Infrastructure as Code.

You'll partner closely with Cloud Architecture, Security, and regional technology teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity that supports critical business platforms across regions.

Why this role matters:

Your leadership will directly improve service reliability, reduce incidents and recovery time, and enable secure growth through standardized network design, strong operational practices, and effective cost management.

We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds and career paths. If you don't meet every qualification but believe you can succeed in this role, we encourage you to apply.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a distributed team of cloud network engineers and operations specialists, fostering an inclusive and high-performing team environment.

  • Define and execute the global cloud networking strategy across AWS and Azure, translating architecture into scalable, production-ready solutions.

  • Architect and guide implementation of cloud network designs, including VPC/VNet architecture, hybrid connectivity, segmentation, and secure connectivity patterns.

  • Be accountable for production operations of cloud networking services, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.

  • Lead major incident response for network-related issues, including root cause analysis (RCA), remediation planning, and continuous improvement.

  • Establish and evolve the operational support model (L1/L2/L3), including on-call rotations, escalation paths, and runbooks.

  • Drive automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) adoption (e.g., Terraform or similar tools) to standardize deployments and reduce manual effort.

  • Integrate network provisioning into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows to improve delivery speed and consistency.

  • Define and track key operational metrics (e.g., availability, incident trends, MTTR/MTTD) and lead post-incident reviews to drive measurable improvements.

  • Partner with Security, Risk, and Architecture teams to ensure compliance with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead global initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders across regions, including Asia, to enable scalable and secure network capabilities.

  • Manage budgets, forecasting, and cost optimization strategies for cloud networking services.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading cloud networking or network engineering teams in a large-scale, enterprise environment (including distributed or global teams).

  • Deep expertise in AWS or Azure cloud networking, with working knowledge of the other or the ability to quickly ramp up.

  • Strong experience in production operations, including incident management, problem management, change management, and service monitoring.

  • Experience designing and implementing hybrid connectivity and secure network segmentation, with strong cloud security fundamentals.

  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform or similar tools) and network automation practices.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with enterprise cloud networking patterns such as Azure Virtual WAN, AWS Transit Gateway, ExpressRoute, or Direct Connect.

  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management practices.

  • Experience managing or contributing to budgeting, forecasting, or cost optimization efforts.

  • Experience working across multiple regions or supporting globally distributed organizations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

What Success Looks Like:

  • High availability and reliability of global cloud network services.

  • Reduced incident frequency and measurable improvements in MTTR/MTTD.

  • A well-defined and efficient operational model with clear escalation paths and support structures.

  • Increased adoption of automation and Infrastructure as Code, reducing manual effort and operational risk.

  • Strong team engagement, development, and retention.

  • Successful delivery of global cloud networking initiatives aligned with business and technology goals.

  • Demonstrated improvements in cost efficiency and resource optimization.
