Job description
The Cloud Architect will lead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise cloud solutions supporting a federal modernization program. This role is responsible for defining cloud strategy, ensuring security and compliance with federal standards, and enabling scalable, resilient cloud and edge architectures aligned with mission-critical airspace operation, Enterprise Cloud Strategy
-Define and execute the enterprise cloud strategy aligned to modernization objectives and digital transformation initiatives
-Establish architectural standards, governance models, and best practices across cloud environments
Cloud Readiness & NEEDS Package Support
-Conduct Cloud Readiness Assessments in accordance with the Start-up NEEDS Package (NP-1)
-Perform readiness reviews at each NEEDS Package milestone, ensuring systems meet migration, operational, and compliance criteria
Cloud Architecture & Engineering
-Design and implement secure cloud solutions in AWS GovCloud and/or Azure Government environments
-Architect solutions that meet FedRAMP Moderate and High baselines and FAA security policies
-Develop scalable, resilient architectures supporting mission-critical NAS systems
DevSecOps & CI/CD Enablement
-Architect and implement CI/CD pipelines supporting continuous integration and continuous delivery
-Integrate DevSecOps principles, including automated security testing, code scanning, and compliance validation
-Establish reusable pipeline and platform standards across development teams
Containerization & Platform Architecture
-Design and manage containerized environments using Kubernetes (K8s), ECS, or similar orchestration platforms
-Define platform engineering standards to support portability, scalability, and resilience across cloud environments
Edge Compute Strategy
-Plan and implement edge computing architectures to support facility-level Operational Technology (OT) systems
-Enable seamless integration between centralized cloud services and distributed edge environments
-Support low-latency, mission-critical workloads at federal facilities
Cybersecurity & Compliance
-Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and continuous monitoring
-Ensure compliance with federal mandates, including OMB M-21-31 logging and retention requirements
-Implement centralized logging, monitoring, and auditing capabilities across cloud systems
Cloud Financial Management (FinOps)
-Establish cloud cost governance and FinOps practices
-Monitor usage, optimize resource consumption, and implement cost control strategies
-Provide visibility into cloud spend and efficiency metrics
Requirements
Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and/or Azure Government
-Proven experience designing architectures compliant with FedRAMP Moderate and/or High
-Experience conducting cloud readiness assessments and migration planning
-Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, ECS, and container orchestration technologies
-Expertise in CI/CD pipeline architecture and DevSecOps implementation
-Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps principles
-Knowledge of edge computing architectures and distributed systems
-Understanding of OMB M-21-31 logging requirements and centralized logging strategies
-Experience supporting federal Authority to Operate (ATO) processes -Familiarity with SWIM (System Wide Information Management) or other federal architectures
-Experience operating in GCC High / IL4-IL6 environments
